I need an all purpose lightwieght(80gr or so) 6mm bullet

THIS RIFLE WILL NOT STABILIZE THE 85GR SGK's
I have a little 12 twist in 6 dasher that I would like to use as an all purpose rifle. In Indiana. I was very hopeful the 85gr SGK was going to be my answer, but I was unable to get them to stabilize. I cant push this little rifle to full dasher potential, I got to around 2700fps with the 87s before the rifle said no more, so the FPS will be less than expected for any bullet which will affect the performance of said bullet. A flat base 87gr hornady did stabilize but it is discon-ed. I feel I am limited to 85gr flatbase projectiles or less. I am very curious what folk think of the 80gr hotcor bullets?
I am willing to accept the compromises of an all purpose rifle IE one that doesnt do anything superbly! I dont need groundhogs and crows to explode,or deer to flip upside down, just dead enough will be fine!

Have couple of boxes of 80 grain flat base Berger's, that shoot nicely from my old 1 in 10 twist Model 70 in 243 Winchester. Tried the 87 grain Hornady's in both BT and FB, but neither were close to the Berger in accuracy. Sadly I my be baiting you with a bullet that possibly no longer east to get.

I'm wondering if you'd be better off with the 68-80gr bullets with the 12 twist.
I shoot Bart's 80gr Dominator in a 10 twist, and playing with his 68gr Avengers now

Sierra had an 80 grain flat base soft point
(I’m not sure if it’s been discontinued) and also the 80 Blitz which is a boat tail. Either one of those are super accurate and would kill the stuff you are talking about.
I have shot both and they shot well for me.

Gary is correct, the Sierra 80g Blitz BT will suffice. 80g berger is on a long jacket and is border line with a 12 twist, however I shot them in a 12T shilen in 6 Remington at 3500 fps with amazing accuracy...IMR 4064 throat eating powder.

May want to try the Sierra 85 bthp. It may stabilize in 12 twist and good varmint and deer bullet.

Nosler makes a 85gr Partition that's a good kill bullet but isn't particularly slick or wind defying so it should work in a 12tw.

The twist you have should work with what you want. Problem with something else ? Action screws , sight base screws , rings , muzzle ? Examine !!

80 grain seirra blitz or 80 grain burger can not go wrong with either .works great on deer.

JBM calc puts this bullet at a marginal stability at my MV of 2700. Stabilty of 1.118. Shooting it at several powder charges produced 0 sub moa groups at 100. Switching to bullets instantly produced a rifle that couldnt do worse than 1/2moa. I really wanted it to work, i truly did. Im gonna do a 10 twist 243 someday and I bet it will like them!

The 80 gr. and 88 gr. Bergers are showing promise in my 6mm C M 1-10 Tw. 26 in barrel. I believe working with seating depth will prove them both to be accurate.

I have basically the same rifle. 12 twist 6 Dasher. I found a very accurate load with the 80 Berger at around 3380-3390 fps using 8208 and Fed 205 primers. I had some unresolved problems getting an 80 BT Barts Dom to shoot accurately.
The 70 Sierra HPBT shoots accurately at 3600 with 8208.
I had no luck getting the 87 or 88 Bergers to play well, but I want to give them a second chance with 8208.

This!!!! and I have to say that Partitions are not generally known for their pinpoint accuracy, but my 240 Weatherby shoots them literally in the same hole. I have also had great accuracy with the 70 {maybe it's 75} grain Ballistic Tips. They kind of do a lot of damage and are not what you call meat or fur "friendly". As to the Speer Hot-Cor bullets, they also are an excellent choice, both for accuracy and killing. Best of luck sir!!!!!

My 12twist 6mm-250 shoots the 85g Sierra's very well.
You might try the Speer 90g hot core (flat base), I think it's shorter than the 85g bullets from both Sierra and Speer.
