I know it's been asked before but load develpment in rain small cal??

Like the title states I did some searching everyone says rain will not effect the bullet but everyone was shooting larger say 100 plus grain pills. So what about the 204 or 20 practical on little 40 grain pills?? Will it effect the little guys?? I have a light rain, range is empty & no wind & a single sloped roof that dumps the rain behind the shooter.

Thanks

Water vapor is less dense than air, why your bathroom ceiling gets wetter than the walls close to the floor when you take a hot shower.

Lighter bullets at higher velocities shot in humid conditions will encounter less resistance because of the lesser density of humid air, just like when fired at higher elevations: bullet ballistics are affected by differences in air density.

That doesn't explain why fog hugs the ground.

Fog isn’t water vapor, it’s small droplets suspended in air.

Fog hugs the ground because ground is cooler, cools the water droplets. Once they get warmed up they’ll rise, or ‘burn off’.

Steam is too, at least the stuff you can see; it’s not vapor (gaseous state) it’s particles and yes it’s warmer than most air, why it rises.

Only a problem if you hit a rain drop. The target will tell you if that happens.

The rain should not be a factor. It would be very rare occurrence for the bullet to hit a rain drop. Once you get your load developed, shooting in the rain is a very good way to learn to read the wind - you can see what the wind is doing in the rain. If you have terrain features that cause changes in the wind, the rain is a very good tool to learn how they affect the wind.

This is one of those “try it and see” things. Figuring out what will really happen is just way too difficult.

In my experience, it is possible to shoot very good groups (around 1/4 minute) in a very light drizzle with heavier bullets. I’ve never tried in a heavier rain with big rain drops.

Sorry that isn’t much help. Let us know if you test it out.

I believe in the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit, but I have a hard time wrapping my mind around that statement. :) jd
