I have a new project, Restoring a old Steam Engine Governor.

I think you should make the balls brass or chrome. That was always a task on steam turbines for the newer guys to polish the balls. It would be cool if you put a little motor on there and had it running half out on display

I'd like to get my balls polished.
I finished it last earning and this morning.

I reamed out all of the linkage holes and made new pins from nickel bronze.

I am searching the various web sites in search of a small flat belt pulley. If I can’t fine one, I will make one, probably out of brass.

it’s going to look good sitting in the entrance hall to my house, View attachment 1325061View attachment 1325067
That looks amazing!!
Definitely needs a Tiffany shade.
Soooo....
Did you complete this project on company time? Lol

Dusty, I can get these. Simple to mill a flat on each and drill and tap it for the 1/2 20 thread.

since it is a show piece, the brass balls would look great.

I machined a flat pulley for it today. As most know, the flat belt pulleys are not flat, they have a crown so the belt will center and grip better. I machined it out of 303 stainless.
it’s going to my house tonight. …….My wife is thrilled, LOL

I bet she is, I know my wife would be, LOL! How did you machine the crown into the "flat-belt" pulley - CNC or manually, and if manually, how?

I free handed it with a tool bit it with the correct curve ground on it.then visually dressed it with a file and Emory paper, getting the crown just right. I think it came out pretty good.86B2C55C-54B1-40D3-B959-E0C72BC2AEF4.jpeg

22years ago I could have arranged for you to take possession of two double expansion hoisting engines and there feed water pumps that my dad bought at a Coast Guard auction before he died.

You wife would have been thrilled with them flanking the governor in the front foyer! Would most likely be as happy as my wife was when she discovered me curing paint on a motorcycle tank in her kitchen oven.
