I have a burning desire for a .17 Remington but where to get one....

I've looked on gunbroker and seen a couple for sale. What is everyone's advice on which one to buy? I would really like to get a 700 to build a good coyote/pd gun out of but I'm wondering if there might be someone out there that makes a factory gun in .17 Remington anymore. BTW, I'm talking about the original .17 Remington and not the fireball. Of course if one of you had one that you would be willing to part with that would be great too.

Are you looking for a new one? CZ makes a nice rifle in .17 Remington

Hogpatrol - Thanks, I didn't see that the 527 was chambered in .17 Rem. I will be calling my local gun store and seeing if they can get me one. Thanks for the info. I saw late last night that there is a pretty nice 700 on gunbroker that I might pick up if my store can't get me one.

Having had exposure to both the CZ and the Rem 700BDL, I own and strongly prefer the Remington with a 9 twist barrel. Also, google up Woodchuck Den. That guy makes some GREAT bullets (kindler golds), is nice to chat with, and a wealth of information on the 17's.

If all else fails.... you can always rebarrel. Lilja makes very good 17 stainless barrels for the 17. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. WD

Wyle, Lilja is just down the road from me and they have a .17 barrel in stock right now. Never heard of the woodchuck den. I will check that out.

I have a 17 MachIV Lilja 9 twist on a Rem 700 that is very close to a 17 Rem and the gunsmith who done mine always said that Lilja was the best in a 17. WD is right about The Woodchuck Den and the Kindler Golds. They work well on coyotes. You won't be sorry if you rebarrel with a Lilja but make sure it is a 9 twist so you can shoot the Kindler 30 Golds. Good luck.

I just bought a 17 cal something for the action (Xp-100) . This is a blued sporter weight barrel maybe 22" long. It seems to be chambered for a cartridge based on a .222 or .223 case. It doesn't seem short enough to be fireball based. Are you interested when I get it unscrewed? Sorry no idea on round count or bore condition.

Well, it's a big strikeout on the CZ 527. CZ told my gun dealer that they haven't actually produced one in a long time and are out of stock. Most likely they won't be producing them anytime soon either. So now I'm really looking at a used gun.

Varmint's Den showing one right now, might be too late but no one has said those magic three words "I'll take it"

For the itty-bitty bullet crowd, here's a new site that starting to get a following. Classified ads also here.

Saw a .17R Cooper for $1200 on Guns America; probably gone by now. I believe Sako chambers a .17, also.

I bought a new CZ 527 in 17 Remington in late December and the rifle shoots bullets touching @100 yards from the bench. It cleans up like a custom barrel (I used Ed's Red to get the preservatives out of the barrel) and doesn't walk bullets when the barrel gets warm. I adjusted the trigger the way I wanted it and that took about 10 minutes. I have no complaints with this rifle. :)

Thanks for the gun offers guys. The Cooper would be right up my alley but the wife not a chance in hell. The TC really isn't my cup of tea either.

I found a few 527's on Gunboker so I think that is the way I'm leaning. There is a guy that has 13 for sale NIB.
