I hate a thief

Hi Dennis! Thanks for that. I just was wondering why they did not or won't insure it for the value of the products. Seems contradictory. I mean, if it were lost then they could only have gotten $50. Their products are high quality. Why not back it up with proper shipping insurance?

I can't answer this one, I guess their taking a chance.

Dennis

I can vouch for the postal inspectors. I personally know 2 of them and they do not take something like this lightly.

I insist on shipping to an individual instead of a company w/ anything firearms related in the title.
All are insured per package value.
All are taped tighter than a frogs ass!

It's been 25+ years w/o an issue or filed claim w/ 400-600 packages shipped per year.

Any USPS package w/ an insurance value of $200 or more requires a signature prior to pick-up.

This year, USPS began an advertising campaign saying that all shipments of any kind would be automatically insured for $50 free of charge. You can purchase more coverage above that amount.

I will be there today and definetly ask. At least it will save a dollar or two.

Has everyone heard about the new regulations when shipping live ammo Starting Today. You can't use the ORM-D label. There is a special new label for shipping ammo.

Thought I would mention this.

See article: http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/?s=ammo+shipping+regulations&submit=Search

Kinda weird labels, but I guess it will get the job done.

This thread needs to be put on hold until John from 21st Century addresses the problem, either with the OP in private, or here. No one has a clue if it was insured, policies, etc..

I had my first B R stolen off the bench off the bench at the gun club along with the ammo .
when I was going down to changing target at 1000 yd. Larry

That would take some jingle bells. I must ask, was it recovered and was the person caught?

Many outfits that ship lots of packages self insure. They save enough in insurance costs by not insuring to pay for the occasional lost package. That is what I do. Of thousands of packages sent over the last six years, I have had one arrive without contents and one lost. The cost of replacing those two was far, far less than I would have paid in insurance in six years.

WOW! Are you serious!? Sorry to hear that. I've always felt nervous going down range leaving my stuff, always.
hope you got it back!

Yup! Same thing happened at a club I belonged to in the mid 1980's. Monthly Sunday morning CMP Rifle match, the whole line walked downrange to the 200 yard targets to score & change targets. While everyone was downrange, 2 guys went down the firing line with a pickup: one driving and the other scooping up M1's, M1A's, Springfields 03's and 03-A3's. Total of 12 rifles were stolen, and they were never recovered.

When I related this incident to those running CMP match's at other clubs, they quickly changed their security policies.

Hard lesson learned about leaving unattended firearms on the firing line, while going downrange.

I've contacted 21st century yes, with them on an extended break for holidays all I can do is wait for a return reply. Yes maybe the products worked there way from the box thru handling, I can't say for sure, yes maybe someone did take them I can't say for sure either. But just gut says they were taken. I've shipped many many items before no yes sometimes delivery gotten delayed and only time nothing HD gotten lost was a certified check I sent recently. The check never got cashed and bank refunded the funds. So no biggie.
I was just venting mostly out of frustration of the items were supposedly gift for my father now that holidays is over though maybe if it gets resolved he might have a nice birthday present.

After reading this thread I have to give a shout out to Powder Valley, just received 1000 bullets from them -shipping was quick, order was filled correctly, package was packed in the appropriate weight box, and contents were packed tightly and the box flaps were even hot glued shut :D Thank you Powder Valley!!

I had a friend who shipped a bunch of pistol parts to a pistolsmith along with some milling cutters. The postoffice bastards stole the pistol parts and left the cutters. I think they xray the boxes that are going to known smiths, dealers, and mfgers. and helping thereselves. Don't expect any help from the postal inspectors - it's been 4 months for him and he hasn't heard a thing. SOSDD!!

James, sorry to hear about this loss. I ordered early on the 13th like you did and placed almost the same order. Mine arrived in TX intact in the same kind of box with the same kind of packing.

Tend to believe your loss was a theft and not due to shipping.... 21st Century has been a stand up outfit in my experience. Give them time to get back to you.

You paid for the products and the shipping. It isn't yours until the vendor gets it in your hands. It is up to the vendor to make it right. Push them.

I got an email from 21st century and they are sending out a new order to me. I feel bad they had to do this as it cuts into there expenses and such and as myself knowing profit margins are very small in this industry it only takes a few mishaps like this and you're in the red.
Anyhow I got a USPS shipping notice so they made it right as I had figured they would. I just needed to rant about sticky fingers and it wasn't about 21st century at all they did there part in my eyes.

I hope you all have a safe and Happy New Year and shoot straight.

There is a good reason that most shippers do NOT fully insure their shipments. Our company (not firearms related) ships goods almost daily via UPS and Fed-X. The reasons we never buy their insurance is first of all, it is very expensive. To Insure for say $300 usually cost as much or more than the regular ground freight cost does. Next, it is nearly impossible to collect from UPS especially, but also from Fed-X when a shipment is lost or damaged. They play so many games with you that you usually just give up. Finally, we do carry our own common carrier freight insurance through our usual business insurance policy. They will pay us for losses in Common Carrier freight, and the cost of that insurance is very reasonable as part of the business policy. It is for that reason that the larger suppliers can afford to just send a replacement when your shipment is lost. Their insurance company pays back the claim if they file it.

M99 is totally correct. I have collected one claim.

Shipping companies play games. That's why I try to package everything bullet proof.

I have been criticized for shipping barrel nuts and recoil lugs and charging for premium packaging. But they make it to the destination. As M99 stated, it won't take many for you to loose money. It would take weeks to recover the looses. Shipping actually cost more than some products I ship.

I had one customer who insisted I mail a barrel nut in an envelope. "HE" refused to take responsibility if the nut was damaged or missing. I have had several packages delivered empty, so I gladly referred him to another company and ship most small arm products in USPS small flat rate boxes. If necessary, I reinforce the product inside.

They won't last in an envelope. Period, or they will bend the nut.

FYI: I know several people think I am taking up for a thief. I know there are thieves out there. I know one case definitely that someone took a barrel out of one of my tubes. Outright theft.

But I also receive an empty tube that looked like a 100# box dropped on it and split the tube in two. The shipping company gave me heck on this claim, and by the time it was over with, I collected "maybe" $75.00. It wasn't worth my while by the time you figure I spent 4 total hours on the phone with the shipping company. I use 3/16 tubing for a total of 3/8 inc both sides, packed heavily with newspaper.

I stress to everyone to heavily pack any barrel or part before shipping. It's could save a lot of time and headaches.

Dennis

PS: If you ship any kind of bullets wrap them in heavy mil plastic bags then put in the box. Or cut extra cardboard and double line the inside of he box. Shipping companies will make a custom box for you and the price is not that bad. Shipping 1,000 bullets , 6mm, make four packages. "EVERY" package I have received because people want to ship in the flat rate box, the box is like a sponge, with tape holding it together. Only the heavy bags kept them together.

Every shipping company has told me to ship 2nd day as for some reason this keeps the packages out of the dishonest employee's hands.

Compact newspaper works best, just work and compact all four sides of the product, including barrels.

I have been burn't both ways, so maybe this info will help someone.

Just remembered: I received one package from an individual and because I signed for it, the shipper stated he didn't have any further obligations. The product was damaged. Long story short, he stopped all communications. Luckily I called the manufacturer (member/vendor here) and I told him what part I needed and why. He sent me one free of charge.

Have a great weekend,
Dennis
