If it wasn’t once loaded with black powder it’s not a real cartridge. 30-30 45-70 44-40 38-55 and all the others. My carry gun is a 1851 Navy. I fire six shots and disappear in the smoke.

I got everything you need to feed them things.

At least for hunting, a person could use nothing but 100+ year old cartridges and get the job done. Quite well, actually.

Recently on this site and others I have seen threads about what your favorite caliber is and why. So I read these answers and one of my favorites is .308 win. So another thread starts and everyone loves the 30-30 win and I chime in it is one of my favorites too. This happens all the time for years so I am going to blow your mind, they are all my favorites. I cant name one I think really sucks because they all can get the job done in the hunting end of it. Now benchrest is a sticky wicket and my favorites are 6BR , 6PPC , and 30BR which I need. In the end what ever works for you is cool with me. Can we agree we love them all?

I always wanted an ‘06 so I bought one. Danged gun loosened my teeth. I won’t shoot it again unless I’m working up lite lead bullet loads!

It is funny how fast a change of direction can be! I was all in. Bought brass and dies and powder and made a plan! Then I fired it. OUCH!!!!!!! When did I get old?!?!?!

I am not a big fan of anything based off the Hornet case. Ive owned a 22 Hornet and 20 Ackley Hornet. Cool little rounds, but the brass just sucks no matter which way you look at it. So thin. If it wasn’t for the weak brass that needs constant and careful care, I’d like the Hornet rounds.

All other rounds are GTG in my book.

There’s way more cartridges out there than we need BUT that give more to pick from to love or hate. I have some favorites and theres some I have no need for.

The illogical need for a 22 CM and 6BRA is causing me to lose sleep at night now.

I'll chime in here. What I hate is all the new designer cartridges that seem to take up manufacturing space at the quality brass makers. I don't disagree that they all fit a niche and are probably pretty good, even the much maligned creed's. But it just boggles my mind that with what I assume is still a lot of people in the F-Class world the still shoot a 284 WIN, that that brass is scarce as hens teeth, but you sure can find the new hot kids on the block!!!!!! I know it's all about the might dollar, but come on make some good brass for that very capable cartridge.

I'm done venting, unless someone from Lapua would like to chime in and give us some hope on when in the future we might see some more 284.

Old thread, but I don't *hate* any chambering.

Depending on the task, I do find some better suited.

I myself am a fan of the .308 family.

.243, .260, 7mm-08, .308, .338, .358.

Have every one and a switch-barrel rifle with a barrel nut.

Hard to get much simpler and more practical than that.

I also have a .204, a .223, a 300BO and a .300HAMR.

Call it whatever you like, but it's simple.
