Guitarists...

When I saw Prince do his request acoustic performance he blew my mind. I never knew he was that accomplished. Another great that almost never gets recognition is Steve Morse. That man is super along with Mr Eric Johnson.

One of my fav's and the biggest goof-ball with a guitar is Joe Walsh.
He can play alongside any of em, and I think he's great not for what he plays, but often what he doesn't play. He really knows how to hold back and not "hog the ball". jd

Thanks for that one and I agree with you.
Joe can play and seems to be way past the ego stuff and just has fun.

Back On point w Mark K.

Watch this video even if you’re not a Dire Straits or Mark Knopfler fan. I find it amazing how he makes it look so simple and effortless. Almost like the guitar is an extension of himself and whatever he thinks just happens on the strings. There is one point where you can see the drummer smiling, my guess is because he’s just thrilled to be part of the performance.

I have seen a few guys in bench-rest that make top notch shooting seem effortless in much the same way. The rifle becomes an extension of their body. I consider them the best of the best. When I get the chance, I try to study everything they do from how they set up at the bench the the actual act of shooting, then I try to emulate it. I have no choice, I tried the guitar years ago. Let’s just say it didn’t last very long.

Dave.

Heck, this thread proves it -- there are so many good guitar players out there that it simply must not be very hard to do.:p

That's a lie, and I know it because I've tried. I grew up playing the brass instruments, and was good at it, but guitar never worked for me. It seems like the guys - or gals - who can do it, become a part of the instrument, and work together with it more than simply operating it. The closest thing I've done that feels like that, is operating my boom truck with two 4-way joysticks, and foot pedals. - hydraulic controls, not electronic.

I had a pretty fair guitar once and wound up giving it to a buddy who was a hopeless tweeker and had lost his to the pawn shop. He was amazing with a guitar, and could play anything with anybody. I didn't have much in those days, but I couldn't bear to see that guy without a guitar.

I sometimes wonder if I should try it again. Then I take a look at my hands. jd
