I am really beginning to dislike Hornady

How did it fit with milsurp brass? The new manufacture may be different. Some companies just resize other cartridges to come up with low demand ones.

I am a big fan of Hornadys 6.5mm 147gr ELD-M but that's about as far as my fandom goes. I hate their dies.

I'm not a big Hornady fan either..I just bought some 6.5 ELD's for a new creedmoor to see what all the fuss is about!!
Redding shell holders are not cheap but the brand I prefer.. I'm new here but hope to gain some knowledge!!! My old eyes are limiting my shooting ability so I'm not into any type of competitive stuff, just enjoying the hobby!!

To present a complete picture how many matches have you lost using those same crappy tools?
I have been to many bench rest matches and I have never seen a single Hornady tool in use.
They are just not used by anyone. My experience goes back years before Hornady ever marketed a single Pacific design...
You have no idea the man that you are typing too! I see that you have no respect!

IME w/ Hornady -Gene Beggs supplied me with Hornady New Dimension Die for his 6 Beggs design. I am impressed with the die. Just goes to prove if one selects a die that is properly dimensioned to minimally resize brass to your specific chamber (Gene provided the reamer also) it usually ends up with a happy customer. Other Hornady products I use - V-max, Sx, and XTP bullets, .17 HM2 ammo.

Let the air out of quite a few whitetails with a smokeless ML shooting the .40 caliber 200 grain SSTs. The grondhogz have shown a severe allergy to their .17HMRs too.:D

Sorting Hornadys can result in good groups at 1000, 5 and 6" ,vert but on the same day bergers get 3 to 4 vertical out of the box.
I don't care for there dies either.

Just got off the phone with a Rep from Hornady after this second shell holder fiasco. He gave me every story in the book on how "this shell holder (#21) is to print and they can't and won't do anything about it. All I have to say to this is that this #21 holder is going in the trash and I am done with all Hornady products. If one product can make this sport dangerous (only the second product I have bought from them, Bullet puller was the first)than I am not willing to take the risk with any others. I am glad that some of you are having good luck with their products. I will stay with RCBS and LEE. Oh I did forget, I do buy their manuals but from now on I will just use them for reference and not for actual loading. But I guess that would only make sense since I will not use their bullets either.
The Gunny;

I struggle with Hornady dies on occasion. I pulled a decapping rod thru the die one afternoon. I called them, they said that was impossible. So, I sent it back. They sent me a new one back.
I just wish I could hit the Lottery and replace everything with either Wilson for low volume stuff, or Whidden for mass production cartridges...

I HATE lee dies almost as much as Hornady. The Hornady "Zip Spindle" is a real joke. Try making 20 VT brass out of .221 Fireball. One pass should get it??? Sounds fine till you pull the Zip Spindle and it comes apart. Ordered a replacement from Hornady. No Charge.:) Turned around and paid for a few more, just in case. Somebody needed a 20 VT die more than I did so mine went down the road. I'll stick with RCBS, Redding or somebody else but NEVER Hornady.
Even has issues with their "Modified Cases. Got one and it worked fine. The next one wouldn't let the bullet slide in the neck. Hornady says "that's normal". They are NOT suppose to slide in the neck?? So this one is normal (that won't work as designed) and all my others that will are all wrong?

I shoot about 10,000 32gr and 40 vmax's a year at squirrels and rock chucks and am quite pleased with them, good value and good performance. but when it comes to their dies, I am not a fan

Hornady bullets are fine but all the tools and dies I have tried have been less than satisfactory to plain garbage. The trimmer is an atrocious design that puts the variance of the rim into the oal. Lee makes some super products at any price ( collet neck die ) and most everything else is as good or better than their massed produced competition. Whiddon and Wilson are tops for dies for me and Forster makes great dies and tools for the money. A Forster CO-AX will fix your shell holder problem and is the best all around single stage press.

I have one Hornady die and I like it a lot. The expander ball is the best design in the industry as is the rod that it is assembled to and the collet that retains it in the die. I have ground down a second expander so that I can decap without that feature, but for those who would use unturned brass with a bushing die and a bushing that only has the expander doing a thousandth or so of "work" it is a very good option. My die is a one piece 6PPC die that has a neck ID of .258 which works out very well when used in conjunction with a .263 neck chamber. The sized brass is extremely straight.

Years back, when I first started using 40 grain plastic tipped bullets in my .222 varmint rifle, my options were the V-maxes and Ballistic tips. Both worked well but the Hornady's ogive let me have more bullet in the case neck seating into the rifling and gave slightly better terminal performance. Both did a good job.

Currently I have a Lock-n-Load adapter in my Rock Chucker and I like that a lot.

I tend to pick and choose individual products from multiple manufacturers rather than buy all of my reloading equipment from one.

Some time back when friend was faced with pulling a lot of bullets I suggested the Hornady die and he was very pleased with the ease and speed of operation.

I like the the "New Dimension" seater die. I think the sleeve dropping down to keep the bullet aligned during the bullet seating stroke is am nice feature for a moderately priced die set.

But on the other hand, I had problems the sizing die from the same set as above giving me problems. It seemed to be undersized, because it took a lot of effort to resize the brass. Finally, after a few rounds one case got stuck.

So I sent I sent it back to Hornady hoping that they would replace the die with a new one. But, they just removed the stuck case and sent back the original sizer die.

Oh well, it's just one caliber I had this problem with. I'm using a RCBS sizer now and switching to New Dimension seater for that caliber.

I did forget about their seating dies. I actually do have some in 8mm, 375 & 30cal. The ones in 375 and 8mm work well but the nes in 30cal drive the bullet in corked.
