Hurricane IAN

Manatee rifle range is shut down for a week and asking for volunteer helpers. Power still out there I think as the gunsmith, Bostrom, lives nearby. He just told me no power.

After 48 hours I got power back. Original generator failed but I was able to source a new Ryobi from a daughter during the storm and get it together and running. Crazy. My window covers worked well again and limping badly, ( a pin went through my foot while starting clean up - I do mean at least 2" into the bottom of my foot) I was able to get much of the property cleaned up.

Now today must try to straighten out some trees pushed over a little. Also want to check on why my original generator started to randomly shut off. Wife and I are safe and sound. Hurricanes are not fun. Think I heard this morning the official death toll is now just 27. Surprisingly low for all the destruction around.

Glad to hear from You Captain, and thanks for the update. Be sure to take good care of that foot and avoid infection ! I have been reacting to these storms since 1999, and have witnessed that it is very easy to get hurt during the cleanup. Please, all work smart and be safe.


Many of our shooting friends are affected by this horrendous event and it will be good to hear from them soon.
 
Glad to hear you're ok. My sister in law lives in Venice. The wife just spoke with her on the phone. They got power in the wee hours this morning and cell is working better. They need a roof and got some water and wind damage but just thankful they were fortunate enough to make it out healthy. She said there are many sketchy roofers already in the area, so beware. I'm sure she'll be sending us some pics soon. Another friend lives in Cape Coral. That area is really bad. They made it through but sounds like they had some substantial damge.
 
Checking in from Bonita Springs, we got power back on last nite and finally got phone service back today, a little bit of wind damage, lost couple trees, pool screen got torn up otherwise not bad, we did get very lucky, we’re just a few miles south of Fort Myers Beach and it could’ve been so much worse

Ian was a tough cookie no doubt. Surprised at the minimal death toll however, one life lost is too many. It rumbled on into North & South Carolina yesterday evening and poured a bunch of water on us and some wind damage but not a lot from what I can see. More flooding than wind damage. Feel sorry for everyone that experienced a loss in any manner. Stay safe during clean-up.
 
My parents have a trailer in Fort Meyers beach. The made it down there Saturday evening. They said the water outside made it to about 3' and 9-12" inside. They are fortunate and mostly just suffered water damage. Many others around them were not so lucky. My mom says their place is one of maybe eight out of 24 on their block that can be saved.
