does that sound like a good option or are there other directions i should look

a buddy had a stockade stock and thats what he said to get, but i reallly did not like his. im not sure what it was but it just didn't feel right.

Vette, You need to try some other stocks before you buy one you don't like. I have tried several and finally settled on Manners Stocks. They are light and strong plus Tom is a stand up guy with great customer service. He also shoots and could help make suggestions on a good stock.

i wish i could try some other stocks. i have the same problem with optics. noone in my area has any desire for precision rifles that i know to check out there equipment. i did get to look through a uso scope before settleing on a nightforce, but i bought it having never seen one.

i did end up calling tom and settled on a mcs-t. he said with me running 50 mm obj on low rings i shouldn't need the adjustable on the ta. if i did need a little boost he thought i could get enough from a stock pack.

there customer service is unbelievable. i ended up getting the opportunity to go on a pronghorn hunt and really wanted to take my build. but my build was due to be done about 2 days before i left for the hunt. defintally not enough time to do load developmet. i called stiller and russ saved me 4 weeks on my action, and tome saved me over a month on my stock.

Yep, I liked the way Tom took time to talk to me. I told him what I was going to shoot the rifle for and he gave me several options. I asked which one(stock)he would use and he told me. He didn't try to sell me the most expensive stock or the cheapest. Just gave me several options and was extremely nice. I ended up ordering a MT5A and can't wait for it to arrive. I got lucky as there are some places to shoot in my area and there are different stocks and scopes to look at and see how they feel, look. This helps alot. Overall I am pretty much stuck on Manners Stocks. Good Luck

My lightweight set up (walkabout varminter) uses a McMillan edge hunters stock. Incredibly strong, very stiff & very very light. It suits me fine for shooting prone but I still have considered getting a Mcmillan A3 but in the light weight edge construction. Stocks are a very personal thing, hopefully you can get behind a friends one & see what you like the feel of.
