Ultralite Rifle Build help

Not knocking the AG or the composite stocks but . . .. that video is pretty typical of PR don't cha think ? Do you see any relevance in driving over a stock and any stress a reasonably used stock should encounter ?

It is PR for sure, but it shows just how strong they really are. I have broken a couple wood sporter hunting stocks over the years and seen other wood stocks broken by people I know. One I broke half the butt off after dropping it on a rock, another I broke the tip if the forearm off. Seen two other wooden stocks break at the wrist. I highly doubt I will ever see a person break a carbon fiber stock...

You will really notice the benefit of a 2" longer rig due to the weight extension. It is a more noticeable when shooting offhand. When I order stocks for "carry" hunting rifles, I use the longest length of pull I can get away with and still get my scope where I can see through it. One is able to hold much steadier. There are lots of ways to trim 2 oz. off a rifle if you wanted to make up for it. Didn't see what kind of scope you had in mind. Most brands vary much more than that.

Go with a fluted #3 and the new Manners 17 oz. sporter stock if you want an ultralight. The barrels will weigh the same and be similar in flex. but you get to shave 10 oz off the stock. I personally like Mcmillan stocks best but the lightest they make is the hunters edge, I think 22-24 oz.

Im building an ultra lite 300wsm rifle using the following components so far:

Defiance Rebel XM Sheep Port
Defiance XM BDL bottom metal
Proof Research 1:10 twist 24in light sendero 30cal
Talley UL rings
Jewell Trigger6
Im having trouble with choosing a stock. I have it narrowed down to a Manners EH4 or Manners MCS-T (carbon fiber option).

Here is my dilemma. The EH4 is 29in long and weighs 26oz inletted. The MCS-T is 31.5in long and weighs 28oz. The stocks are identical except for length. Is it worth a 2oz weight hit to go with the longer stock? I have to believe that the longer stock will allow for more stable shooting off of a bipod, shooting sticks, offhand, etc....as the support point is closer to the muzzle.

Any insight?

Why an ultra light?
