Hunting Revolver - Red Dot suggestions

Looking for suggestions on a red dot for a .357 revolver for casual deer hunting. The gun currently has a Tru Glo like this, which leaves a lot to be desired:

I never liked the tiny red dots. I have UltraDots on my .500 Mag., .475 Linebaugh. They are tough on these guns. Never failed. I used them on my Pythons, but decided to stay with open sights. Killed 8 nice bucks with the Python, open sights, from 60-90 yds. ll one shot.

I like the Holosun 507C Competition with a green dot, works better with my astigmatism. I have a Holosun on 3 revolvers. I prefer the Competition for the bigger window.

Right on the money with the ultra dot. I use them on all my Bullseye pistols & some AR's.
My main wad gun has a slide mounted dot. It has a documented 105,000+ ( last time I checked the round count was 6 months ago). That's over 210,000 times the slide got slammed back & forth. Still in use & keeps it's zero with boring consistency.

I like them all but will suggest something and hope it doesn't upset anyone with their favorites....

I would suggest you get to a well-stocked sporting goods counter and have a look at all of the ones you are considering. They all have their pros and cons in terms of intangible differences that would be impossible to know from the ads and specs. Having a look through several all in the same session is worth the trip, and better yet would be to try one of a friend's while outside in a realistic setting.

Good Luck and in for the report.

^^^^^ Excellent advice, unless you live 90 minutes from a 'LGS'............ (and happy for it) :)

I was not aware that the competition model had a bigger 'window', will surely investigate that little tidbit................been looking for something different to put on my shotgun.

Many (most) of my single action revolvers wear optics of some sort. For being able to retain zero, take punishment in the form of recoil, and be able to "find" the dot/reticle, I would say either the Ultradot or a handgun scope. For lightweight and smaller size, one of the reflex style (Trijicon RMR/SRO).

I find the Ultradots to be very easy to find the dot, and the little reflex styles somewhat harder without more practice. The scopes are like the Ultradots where it is easy to find the reticle on a revolver. A red dot will obviously work much better in low-light, so there is that.

I never will consider a mount on sighting system to be as clean looking as simple irons (OK, fugly even), but my getting older eyes sure appreciate an optic and my groups are every bit as good as I ever shot when my eyes were competition ready.
