HUNTING RED DEER 7 rem mag

Hi, i'm from italy, apologize for my english... i shot a red deer vith a 308 155 a-max ( muzzle vel 2890fps) at 295yards and i hit the chest, shocking lungs, but not the heart ! deer was heavy about 220lbs and it traveled about 150 yards far: this is absolutely no good for me. now season is closed but i think the next i'll hunt vith my 7 rem mag made by " concari " vith 26" barrel. i tested velocity vith 162-amax: 3020fps and 3050 vith 150nosler partition, i have also 60 rounds of pmc vith 160xlc barnes, but i heard that at long distance barnes may have problems in expanding...is true? i'm very confused, can anyone help me for the better choice? probably next year distance shot can reach 600 yards..
as soon as possible, i'll post pic of shot placement...

It is very hard to go wrong with a Nosler Partition. They expand at reduced impact velocity and do not blow up at high impact velocity. The only negative is that they have a relatively low ballistic coefficient compared to the tipped boat tails that are available. The partition, however, will not fail to expand in a controlled, predictable manner. The 150 Partition out of a 7mm Mag should work great for red deer.

It is not uncommon for a 220# deer to run after being shot in the lungs. They do not die of shock but of tissue damage and bleeding. The same shot in the same place with a 7mm Mag. going a little faster would likely have produced the same result. If you want to prevent the deer from running, you must have a central nervous shot. High shoulder spinal cord, brain, or some other spinal cord shot such as neck, etc. Easiest is the high shoulder since bone fragments become secondary missles and a few inches one way or the other usually doesn't make any difference. Not so with the neck or head shot.Get a chart showing the skeleton and internal organ placement and you will see where you want the shoulder shot to be, where the shoulder and vertebral column meet.
You need shot placement, not a different bullet or rifle.
I learned this 50 yrs. ago when I shot a Mountain Goat at less than 25yds through both lungs on a side shot using a .30 cal 180 gr. Hornady at a chronograhed velocity of 3304fps. He didn't even flinch but stood there and looked at me before walking off for about 25-30yds.
Remember, shot placement, shot placement.
I have used Barnes TSX to 400 yds and they expand but their real advantage is penetration and tissue damage no matter what your shot angle is.
Hope this helps.
