7mm Rem Mag and 150 Ballistic Tips?

I would like to hear your thoughts on the 150 gr Ballistic Tip out of a 7mm Rem Mag on deer sized animals. I would use the rifle for more open areas where shot selections would allow for broadside or slightly quartering away.

I am guessing shots would range from 50-400 yards here in WI.

Thanks

HEY MAN
You will not have a problem w/that bullet at the posted distance I'll a sure u that!

It seems to me the nosler bullets tear up a lot of meat. I shoot them out of my 7-08 but haven't killed with it yet. I'm a firm believer in Berger bullets.
I shot this buck at right about 350yds

Hit rib on both sides. I've switch to them for both my 7mm and my 25-06

Three of my hunting partners have taken a total of over 300 deer with the 7mm Mag and 150 gr Nosler BTs. All kinds of shots from 25-350 yds. Complete satisfaction with the performance in all respects.

With IMR 4350, the 150 Ballistic Tip has worked very well for me in the 7 Rem Mag. Double lung shots from 200 to 300 yards produced complete pass through with devastating results. I never had a failure and none got away.

I've shot B/T's for years in several calibers. They work! You will probably mess a fair amount of meat but you won't have to trail them far if at all. They are accurate enough for head/neck shots, my preferance due to meat damage, of course our deer are much smaller here in S.C. Paul

I think that you will get along just fine with them. I have not shot them, as I use predominantly Hornady Interlocks and Nosler Partitions, but from everything that I have seen about them, the newer ones don't explode quite as badly as the older BTs. They are an accurate bullet, too, which helps. Meat damage is irrelevant, especially if you shoot them through the ribs. If you hit a shoulder, it does not matter what bullet you are shooting, you will have meat loss. The amount of meat on the front shoulders is not a big deal. I would rather have a deer on the ground with meat damage than one that gets away due to poor bullet placement, or poor bullet performance. Nosler all the way.

Made lots of kills with Ballistic Tips over decades. Only had one failure from a 100 gr. 25 cal on a deer's shoulder at 275 yards. It flat out did not penetrate yet knocked the deer down in shock.

Lately I have moved to SST's. They are cheaper, shoot well out of many of my rifles, expand like BT's and the bases hold together to penetrate. My favorite for my 7mm mag is the 154 SST's.
