I just checked 3 of mine and they all looked to be glued on. If they have screws, you will find about a 1/4 inch cut in the pad about 1 inch in from the toe and heel. B&C both screws and glues it on.
Depending on the glue, a heat gun may help. Heat the area where the pad and stock joins and wiggle it around to see if a spot starts to turn loose. A good sharp wood chisel about 3/4 inch wide will get between the pad and stock and start to peel it off but I did chip one...mine.
A friend of mine has a Remington with an HS stock. The thin rubber pad was screwed and glued on. Once we got it off, there was a metal reinforcement underneath. The aftermarket Decellerator pad would not lay flat over it. We ended up grinding the metal piece down flat on a belt sander, filled in a few voids with epoxy, and screwing the new pad on. More work than we expected, but it turned out nice.
Reread your post after typing mine. We ruined the old pad taking it off. Damn good glue!
They are glued on. The best way I've found to remove it is this....Put your stock in the deep freeze over night. The next morning, clamp the stock in a bench vise. Using a hammer and a putty knife or similar tool, tap firmly at the joint of the stock and butt pad. Most of the whole thing should off. There will likely be glue and some bits of plastic from the butt pad left on the stock. I used a palm sander to clean things up. Oh, it's not possible to remove it without ruining it.
