Mercury recoil reducer

So who makes a hydraulic rear recoil reducer that can be fitted to a stock??? I owned a BT99 Plus that had a mechanical recoil reducer on it. It worked very well.

I forgot about those, I think Graco still does. They do work very well.

I bought a used BT99 to resell. I was shooting it and noticed how
mild the recoil was. I was going to change the recoil pad to another brand. Thats when I found the Mercury Reducer. All I can say it worked. The weight wasnt sufficient for me to realize it was there.

BTW IMHO the best recoil reducing system, if you not going to have it attached
to a moving style comb, is the Counter coil. I have owned several BT99 Plus guns, and always changed out the Browning unit to the Counter Coil. They work. LDS

Forget about the old school Mercury Recoil reducing system. Look at the G-Square. If Kim Rhodes thought the mercury system actually worked, she'd be using it!

The downside for any sliding system like Graco, counter coil, or G squared on a rifle is "scope eye". 95% plus of the length of the rifle will be moving toward your shoulder. That includes the scope

I was a non believer in mercury recoil reducers until I took mine out of my 505 Gibbs rifle. The difference in the 'snappier' side of the recoil was alarming, with it in place, the recoil wasn't as 'sharp' or as brutal. Many people have shot it once with the reducer in place, but recline the second shot!

Mine is a 1lb model, it definitely takes the 'bite' out of a 600gr bullet @ 2350fps.
The factory loads I used with 525gr @ 2150fps were powder puffs in comparison.

Cheers.

Almost anything for guns can be considered old school. The earliest recoil reducing stock that I can remember is the Hydro Coil that was a 2 piece plastic stock with springs and buffers of some sort. It was introduced back in the 1960's and was made for Mod 12 Winchesters.
Men have been trying to defeat recoil since the firearm was invented.
