Howa Mini Action Flush Clip Trick

You may have seen this in a different site, but here is an easy way to covert a Howa Mini Action clip to be flush.

-Slide the bottom cover off.
-cut the bottom of the clip off about 1/16” below the raised line on the clip. I used a mini-hacksaw. Smooth the edge with sand paper until the cover can slide back on. It works best if the cover is tight with no slop.
-remove some of the plastic at the front of the clip so that the cover will slide all the way on.
-cut off a portion the follower, this will allow you to put 5 rounds in clip as opposed to 4.
-sand the top of the cover. This is necessary so that the latch on the gun will snap into the clip.

Great idea.

My grendel likes .015 off the lands which renders the mag pretty well useless.

Can you show the follower modification you mentikned? I'm curious how you fit 5 rounds in the mag with it cut off??

FYI there are two options for new bottom metal with flush floor plates. The pictures I have seen they look very nice.

Those are nice looking little actions. I have been thinking about putting a rifle together with one of these but the cartridge I want to chamber is based on the M1 Carbine case, which is a bit smaller diameter than 223. Saw a thread on saubier about doing this but never got an answer from the guy who built the rifle. Would someone please post a picture of the boltface of a 223 based action. Thanks for your help.

If you look closely at the picture of the clip before and after, you will notice that the follower on the left has a piece on its right side that extends down. The follower on the right has that piece cut off. Not sure why they had that piece extend down in the first place. This will compress the spring more, so not sure if that will cause long term problems with the spring, but I don't normally put more than 3 rounds in the clip anyway. Hope this helps.

Could you post a link or send me contact info? I bought a couple of these actions for projects but haven't kept up on what's available. I know DIP and Jefferson make a metal replacement for the factory bottom plastic, and CDI had something in the works?

Rifle basics 1lb trigger from Brownells and Brownells walnut stock and talley lightweight rings.

I bought one at Thanksgiving, did the DIP bottom metal and mag release. Then ordered the lighter springs off ebay, switched them out and that factory trigger is smooth and light. I polished the dealie bob as well....breaks very clean. Thanks for the Mag Mod!!
