Good afternoon all. I had the opportunity ($$possible misfortune$$) of going to a new shooting range yesterday and seeing a neat little rifle in use. . .and now my gears are spinning!!! Two benches down from me a fella had a custom Howa Mini chambered in 6x47 Lapua!!! It was a sweet rig to say the least. It was a single shot target rifle which doesn't interest me, but that he had a cartridge with a .473" bolt face being shot out of it. . .THAT HAS MY INTEREST!!! I was really on the fence of building a 22GT, but don't have a short action I'm will to give up for the project. So, the 22 Dasher/Howa Mini is on my mind and the gears are turning hard, not good for my bank account.
I currently have a 22 Grendel (22ARC) in a Howa Mini and really have enjoyed this little round, but I'm a tinker'r and always thinking on improvements to my hunting equipment while passing time in my treestand. I'm having visions of a 22 Dasher slinging 85 to 90 grain pills in the 3000+ fps. range as a great little hunting rig. I have a stockpile of Lapua 6BR brass from a previous bolt action pistol I sold off, and 6 Dasher dies are easily obtainable for converting to 22 Dasher, and I've always wanted the .224 version. . .so 22 Dasher it is.
Being the Howa brand does not have the following of the Remington, Tikka, and other custom actions do any of you forum members have a recommendation to a qualified gunsmith that would be willing to take on this project? I have searched around on the web but have not seen much if any info on the Howa Mini Action. I would be much appreciative with any smiths you could provide. Thank you in advance.
