How to minimize/prevent rifle recoil upper arm bruise

Many rifles shooters and certainly myself have experienced arm/shoulder bruise (see pic) from recoil particularly when shooting repetitively over a short period of time such as during competitive matches. I shoot 6.5x47 rounds on a front rest with a bag under the back stock using mid level powder loads and still get these bruises even though my arm/shoulder is not touching the stock butt until it recoils in the rests upon discharge. Maybe I need to position the butt nearer toward where my upper arm meets my shoulder. I know there are various pads that can be affixed to the butt but don't know which are most effective. There also may be other ways to avoid the bruise. Any thoughts regarding what I can do to minimize or eliminate this problem.
Jesus Christ. Ouch. You are likely too far from the rifle if you are attempting to shoot free recoil. And the butt of the should come back into your shoulder, not your upper arm. Get some ice on that madness.

It is only baby recoil for those that have good rotator cuffs and none of the other ten things that cause joint pain. I have brakes on all my 6.5s. Of course they are noisy SOBs. I have an Thunder Beast Ultra in limbo for that problem.

Looks like you need to stop putting the heel of the stock where it is, and get the centre of the butt up higher on the shoulder so that it can spread out the recoil instead of concentrating it all in one spot such as it is. Only time I've had that kind of sore shoulder was with the 450-400NE in a Ruger #1 with 400gr loads and the Ruger pad on it, or when the stock slipped down there, due to awkward positioning while trying to shoot overhead and behind with a heavy shot load in a 12ga shotgun. Put enough rounds thru with a heavier recoiling gun, you'll probably get some discoloration, even when held properly, but, not like that. A 6x47, even in a 7lb gun, shouldn't do that to you.

Find a way to get square behind the rifle. Accuracy will not be fully realized till you stop using your arm as a backstop.
It might help to shorten you stock length if possible.

I always thought the butt should contact the space to the left of your right shoulder bone. If it's on the bone the stock will roll off the bone on recoil. The butt should not even be touching your arm anywhere. I shoot a 13.5 lb. 6BR so recoil doesn't bother me. Used to shoot a light weight 7mm Mag off the bench.
