How to install a "Short Stroke" kit on a Winchester

That's pretty slick! I can see the potential for it in comp. I have two lever guns, but both are for shootin critters. I am having a hard time finding the right sights for my Puma 92 in 454, Skinner is nice, but too far forward, and buck horn sights I just dont like.

Check out the "Fire Sights" on my 92 Take Down project. The best "hunting" sights you'll ever use. I have them on my Rossi 92 in 454 Casull also. These 60 year old eyes never seen anything better!

OCTAGON BARREL! ;D I love it! A little extra weight would be nice to help tame that mule kicker. I have to ask, how much for a barrel swap to octagon with out the take down feature and with? As to fiber optic sights, I have tried them, and yes they are great in low light situations, but when the sun pops out they tend to be too bright and create a haze, and accuracy suffers, with me any way. I tend to go for an ivory bead and ghost ring, the extra sight distance helps me with making those 100 to 150 range shots, if I need em that is.

I'm not sure what a gunsmith would charge to do that swap. I'm not a REAL gunsmith.........I only play one on TV... ;D

But if you could buy a barrel from M&M for around $200, a gunsmith might charge another $100 to thread it on and chamber to 454.

So you admit your a tease? :P I see how it is ;) thanks for th info, you have some good articles there, keep up the good work. BMW is gonna be what I upgrade to when I get tired of my shadow, just saying. 8)

Lever action complete barreling usually runs 25 to 50% more then a conventional bolt gun, depending on the complexity of the cuts at the breech as well as mag tube and sight dovetails. If a guy can/will do it for $100.... RUN! AWAY!

Sorry, we were talking about a "swap", where the new barrel would be sourced from the manufacturer and would have all of the appropriate cuts for sights, forend hanger and mag tube. A remove and replace......

I've swapped barrels on over a dozen lever action rifles with rimmed cartridges and I've never had to adjust for headspace. Marlins, Taurus, Rossi and Winchesters.
Now if you had to adjust for headspace, that would cost some dough as you would need to spin the barrel one revolution to get the sights to line up and then rechamber if the headspace was proud. And then you would need to modify the forend to fit the new hanger location and cut the mag tube.

If the headspace was short, you might get lucky and just clean it up with a chamber reaming.

Hope this helps....
