For long-reach DTIs, I use the Noga on the cross slide so it can be run in and out of the bore, and set the indicator concentric with the bore, so that when you run it in and out, the stylus is dead center at the ball and at the shank near the max travel. Then I adjust the stylus to just contact the bore. It should then run without interference anywhere down the bore.

How long is that stylus ? Where did you get it ? Looks like a really long one from the pictures.

It's 2.5 inches or so; whatever the length of the Interapid is. It is an Interapid stem threaded to fit a Brown & Sharpe. It gives a bit more reach than the B&S long stem which is about 1 7/16 if I recall correctly.

@Alex Wheeler did a little demo video on how little resolution they have not too long ago but i cant find it. The .0001 indicator i bought thinking it was the correctly modified one has about .003 per line.

That is true, but we're not interested in absolute runout so much as getting as little runout as possible. I have a 0.00005 DTI that shows good readability even with the long-stem DTI.
