how to hold indicator ?

I have a Intrepid 312b-15 coming in the mail and was wondering what fixture works best to hold it to indicate barrel . I don't have any way to hold the dovetails. What do I need?

Any pictures of a set up?

I use a flex head mag base. Mine are starrett but the cheaper ones like from grizzly work fine

This is something that works good for me one is some height gage holders from mitutoyo that I have in tool holders for my quick change on the lathe the other is a universal arm in a mill holder but it would work great on the lathe also.
Then I have a large universal arm on a large mag base for reaching the out board spider- barrel.
I will see if I can find the pic there are plenty of ways to hold one a cheap mag base from harbor freight would work to.

I also use three of these noga units the big boy is the one I use for my out board indicating.

I have the Shars Noga knockoffs. Work pretty good. These are B&S BesTest DTIs but work the same:

B&S are good and the shars are good I just prefer indicating off the bore and that brings another argument into question.
It is easer to hold the indicator than figure how you want to indicate what you are indicating

For long-reach DTIs, I use the Noga on the cross slide so it can be run in and out of the bore, and set the indicator concentric with the bore, so that when you run it in and out, the stylus is dead center at the ball and at the shank near the max travel. Then I adjust the stylus to just contact the bore. It should then run without interference anywhere down the bore.

I do the same as liljoe but I mount the test indicator directly in the tool holder.
