How Peterson Cartridge Company decides on new cartridge brass

I wish they would either say YES its coming with a tentative date or just say we thought about it and decided against it.
I need to order more 300 WSM brass and Im tired of of waiting on their WSM brass. I guess I'm gonna have to make a descent purchase of Norma WSM brass
Gentleman ,
To clear up the 300 WSM , to put it simply , it's not in production. It's a cartridge that's been on our radar and may develop in the future but is not at the top of development list at this time. Again , our first priority is to keep up with our existing cartridges. We will continue to develop cartridges as we go but production is certainly our first priority

hey Tim,
I'm curious as to why Grafs has the monpoly on your brass. It seems they are first in line for new offerings and exclusives sales to other calibers like 6 and 7 BR.
I don't have anything against them but there is a substantial number of guys here and all across the country who buy most of their reliading supplies from Brandon at Blue Collar Reloading.
I needed 6 BR brass for a new 30 BR build and when I tried to purchase it he mentioned he couldn't get it direct from you but had to go through Grafs to get it at additional cost and shipping.
Bottom line whether I got it from him or Grafs it was going to cost me extra having an order from 2 vendors with extra shipping or paying a higher price to have BCL get it for me.
As it turns out the brass is very good and worth the extra cost but not being able to get all my supplies from one supplier without paying extra leaves a bad impression on my first purchase of your product.

Quite simply Graf's does a great job handling brass sales and from what I've been told they offer great deals for dealers. Whom Peterson Cartridge deals with and on what levels is certainly outside my wage. Thanks for the input and it will be passed along

I guess the thread should have been more in the line of what you intended to roll out and other than that production was priority.

Ray
Honestly Ray ,
The post was in answer to dusty and others who asked what process we went through in considering cartridges so I thought I was clear and apologize if it was misleading. I titled it hoping to answer the questions that popped up in that thread rather than going back through.

Were does Euro Optics fall into this, advertising your brass for sale but backordered. I actually checked Graffs site the same day as Euro but Graffs didnt have 280AI listed for sale or Backorder.

Gentleman ,
It's Tim again to update information. The reality of the situation is very simple to explain. We have produced 4 new cartridges to our line up.
1. 280 Ackley
2. 280 Rem
3. 270 Win
4. 30-06 Springfield
We were waiting for our formal press release to come from graphics and we will still be doing a formal release in the near future.
The above cartridges will be available at Graf's in the coming weeks. Hope this clears up any confusion.

Why make stuff like the .30-06 and .270 which is as common as houseflies? How many pieces do you have to produce to make it economically feasible? 10 million? More? Less? BTW i'm not in need of any brass at the moment.

Ok folks ,
After meeting with our President , I've come up with answers for everyone's questions about how we decide what brass were going to make.
First off , our priority is to keep up with the 35 cartridges we're making now. That being said , we also have 12-15 cartridges we are actively pursuing (no , I cannot discuss what they are , sorry).
So , into the general process........
1. Is a cartridge already on our radar?
2. Is it brass people are wanting ?
3. Do we make anything in that family of cartridges already?
4. Cost of development. If its not in a family we already do , the tooling costs can be extremely expensive.
5. Is there a market for it?
A. Is it a growing caliber ?
B. Is it a dying caliber ?

Now , for all you guys that I am certain are trying to figure out what the 12-15 are we are actively pursuing........
1.Some are a family of cartridges we already make
2. Some are in fact new all together.

I know that some are going to want to know more but as things continue to grow we will continue to release more information at the appropriate times.

We have heard all of your requests and all have been looked at. My hope is that this helps answer the questions being asked a couple weeks ago. Schedules and timing were tricky and I apologize for the delay. Please feel free to continue with your suggestions , and comments. The feedback has been fantastic and the entire Peterson Team thanks you for your input and support of our products.

An offer of 'cylinder brass' no head stamp, would be very useful. For example 0.473" case head 2.6" long for starters. This brass, therefore, can be formed into any ' 30-06' based cartridges and wildcats, same goes for the 308 length cases and others.
