How often do you scout a potenial hunting area

Since this is, as I best understand, open territory and you have already bumped into your neighbors up there.
how many "others" are out scouting and enjoying the same tract of land?

Hard to say Bro, where im hunting is National forest now the high gate over on the flower lake road has been open for awhile and if you know the old logging roads you can get up close but most of the freaking Hippies camp way down below, (snowflakes) looking to get ate by Grizzlies when they hike with pork chops in the packs.

Sorry SPJ, but I was thinking back to my younger days. I’d go out stalking and keep thinking “the big one” was just around the next bend. When I didn’t find him, I’d tell myself I just didn’t go far enough. Got lost a couple times. Be careful out there!
Yeah the big one !!!
Bro' Its so rugged in some of these places i wont go in just because I cant get back without a chopper.

I have my area determined , but the last couple months I have not ventured in too far so not to disturb the game i know live there, rather glass from a ways back.
My question is; Am I being over cautious ?
No, when hunting season starts you will be in there disturbing game so limiting your exposure before season is smart

I have a tag in my pocket for one now! Buddy killed one here 2 years ago. Always a pair or two moving thru here. I have found tracks but haven't seen many.
I have only had a glimpse at one and that was pure luck, they are like ghosts..

Not yet sil ordered a blind and ill get a call probably, now this black bear has me interested but I have to take a test prior to a tag.

Been out scouting for antelope the last couple weeks. Season opens Wednesday. Taking a day off to try and poke a good one I've seen a couple times. However, he keeps wandering over onto deeded ground. Guess we'll see...

Sounds like a good plan, please report back with the big one.
Good luck out there.

I have seen more big bucks and other wildlife while trapping in blue jeans than I ever have while hunting. The interesting thing is they don’t even seem spooked, it’s like they know your not hunting them. Many times they just look at me and go back to feeding or just casually walk off. You would be surprised just how much the forest changes on a daily basis. No wonder the wildlife usually has no trouble picking out hunters. I have had bucks walk right passed me while making a set to where I could almost touch them, I just keep about my business and ignore them and they do the same, kinda strange.

Wife and I went for a jeep ride up and around the back side a few days ago only to find the county has had a grader on the old road apparently cleaning up but to what end is unknown.
We got passed by a young person screaming along on a dirt bike, with all this action going in we have not seen any game moving at all. Is this a good sign ? Hell I don't know but I wish it would start snowing so I could see more game traffic.

Well opening day came and went with my scope on a couple bucks I got picky and thought they although 4 point WT could have been a tad bigger so I passed not only those two but a couple Doe could have been taken on my B tag.
Getting more serious the last few days my shed is cleared out and ready to hang a few deer so now get Er done.
Mrs.SPJ was kind enough to help me with these photos taken just 240 yards from my Cabin.
Notice the length of stride on this Grizzly...

So when the shooting stopped and all the dust cleared we had three decent bucks hanging and me still looking for that bigger guy, we put down a couple Doe on our either sex B tag during last light on Sunday. One turned out to be a spike that was the smelly son of a gun from the moment I drug it to the truck, after skinning my grandson called me over to check it out and WOW the dude was rank!! So I had to dump it.
Anyway…yesterday afternoon and true to form here’s the bigger Buck I had seen several times but could not get a shot on. Hard to see the size of antlers in the photo but trust me he’s much than the others.

Game? What game? Depends on the game.
I stay out unless absolutely necessary to be on area.
