How much to charge for primers?

How much markup on a box of primers would be in line with street prices today? A fellow at the range said he is selling some at 2x the cost because he spent most of the time and effort to stock up while he could...I’m just trying too get a feel for what the market will bare?

Primers are still out there, even small rifle, it takes some Luck and diligence to find them.
I paid $313.00 total which included Haz-Mat Fee & Shipping (UPS) for a Case (5000) of CCI 41 primers on Friday evening. It was late in the evening and a member posted that there were 400 cases available at an on-line seller and I managed to get my order in & get payment processed before they ran out. - So, I paid $62.60 per 1K of the CCI #41's.
- Last week locally I purchased CCI-250's for $40.00 (per 1K) (after tax) at a local shop and they still have probably 12-15 cases of these CCI-250's on the shelf (as of yesterday), they also Have Federal Match Magnum Pistol (#155) on the shelf to the tune of 15-20 ea. 1000 pack boxes. - They're charging around $54.00 + tax for the Federal pistol primers.
- The CCI 250's I purchased some for some friends who I'm NOT charging a cent more than what I paid for them, I believe that what comes around goes around.

I charge no more than what I paid for them and don't add Hazmat or shipping costs. I didn't buy them to make money, if I wanted to do that I'd open my own store. I try to help out when I'm able and have been helped out by others in the past so I figure I'm paying it back. Maybe someone I help will help someone else in need when they are able. We are under attack from so many that it just doesn't make sense to make a profit from members here. Just my two cents.

I figure what goes around comes around. If I have extra and a friend I shoot with doesnt, I will take care of them. I have had "friends" call me wanting me to load ammo for them since they cant find it anywhere. I will not do that, I haven't heard from them in years, they know I shoot and maybe have what is needed to put ammo together.
I did help someone who has done alot for me but isnt into shooting, but need some ammo that isnt available anymore. I took what I had and made some brass, used my supplies and in the end help him. I do not want to take advantage of people and do not expect them to take advantage of me. If for some reason I can not shot anymore, I will pass what I have to fellow shooters and my sons. If they dont need/want, then I will be buried with it or it will got to auction

I have a customer that i only talk to once a year or so when its time to build a gun. Loaded him some ammo for one gun one time, brass over $2each, he didnt save the brass and 5 years later called wanting some more because theres none in stock anywhere. Wheres the brass? Who knows. Hard to dig into my stash for that (fresh out)

A customer like that, I bet it’s tempting to turn him away even for good paying work when he has cash in hand. The nerve of some people. I used to think those types were just tacky. Nope, they’re selfish jerks.

After reading the 2A thread, there are a few members here that I wouldn't surrender a primer to at any cost.

I'd like to trade sp for sr cci but can't find any one with small rifle ....
I bought 3k Fed match back in first shortage 6 or so yrs ago. Paid 40 a k. Still have em.

I look for SRP's from reputable dealers every day with no luck. I have enough on hand here to get me through the next year or so, but the ability to get another thousand or two would be great, so the search continues. I will not buy primers at the prices that people are paying on Gunbroker and the like.

I have Notifications at about 5 on-line web-sites and I look locally as I see that is where much of the components are being directed to. - Right now Powder supplies are looking pretty depleted at on-line retailers as well. - And networking with local shooters who I can help & will help me is also another resource.

It's supply and demand that sets the price.

I made money on some firearms when this all started because my LGS(owner is a friend) asked if I wanted to sell anything because he's having trouble sourcing certain guns. He offered either what I paid or more for used guns that are collecting dust. He then sold them obviously for a mark up. That's business and the market sets the price.

The retail price of Pappy 23 is $299 as I recall. It will cost you $3K plus to get one. They are allocated and you better know someone to get the chance to buy one at retail. Primers aren't the only thing in demand.

I don't hoard but I do buy components in larger quantities because I don't like to be surprised by different lot numbers so yes, I've got 3-4 years of competition in reserve. I won't sell it because I frankly don't know when I can replace it and even when I can, it won't be the same lot that has proven itself. I'm sure it will work but I don't need the money.

Primers are the cheapest component for any of my reloads. Double the price of that input and it wouldn't faze me a bit.

But I'm a competitive shooter and not a prepper. If I was a prepper and didn't have ammo already then I'd be a failure as a prepper. I do have about 1000 9mm and 1000 .223 rounds for a rainy day but frankly if I needed 1000 rounds to survive, I'd probably already be dead before I fired more than 100 and I'm actually well trained.

What will be interesting is to see how things balance out over time. Powder is worthless without primers, both are useless without cases and bullets. I can load 159 rounds with a pound of powder. At what point will a primer poor but powder rich guy trade me 8# of powder for 1272 primers. That's when I'll know things are getting bad.
