How much should 6mmbr neck be sized? This can't be right

Any help appreciated. Have Forster full length sizing die. Sizing new (un turned) Lapua brass, sized neck measures .258 loaded round neck measures .269.

Put the expander back in- that's the way expander equipped dies work, they undersize the neck significantly then the expander finish sizes it.

Thanks Groc, Just finished this rifle today, first time loading this caliber.
For 6.5cm I normally size & then use a mandrel to uniform the id. Was surprised that this die work the 6br brass that much.

Thanks SPJ, Thinking of sending this die to forster to have the neck opened. Am looking for .002 tension. I thought something was wrong, it was taking noticeably more force & also added a little more body taper. I'll prob call forster Monday & see if that much sizing is by design.

If it’s virgin brass you may not be touching the necks with the Die, virgin brass necks are tight..An expander will more than likely open them up a little for you.

Just sent my die to Forster for honing. My measurements were .259 sized with no expander and with the expander installed it opened the necks to .267, loaded round was .269 with a 68gr Berger. They advised me to have the die honed out to .265 accounting for spring back and use the expander ball to expand the last .001. This was also using Laupa brass.

About .002” neck tension sounds about right..

Just curious did you measure the necks diameter before sizing? If so what were they?

No I never measured the necks. Wish I would have. First thing I done was to seat a bullet and the necks were so tight that I deformed a case. I then ran a Sinclair expander mandrel through the necks then took some measurements so I could order my reamer.

You're gonna ruin your brass with that junk. Drop it in a trash can & get a bushing die.
Normally I use a Redding body die in conjunction with a Lee collet die. I get good results with this. What reason do you have to not like the die honed method?? TKS

Thanks Murray, have you gotten your die back? If so how do you like it?
I do use bushing dies for 6.5cm & 7mm08 but I load those pretty warm and can only get about 5 loads per brass so l don't worry about brass buildup at neck/shoulder. Am hoping to get longer life with the 6mmbr.

@Badsalad
Haven't gotten them back yet. They have been shipped so I expect them maybe next week. I bought the dies and brass so as to get some measurements to have my reamer made. I expect to build the rifle late in the year. If this doesn't work to my satafaction then I believe I'll go the Redding body die /Lee collet die route. I do this for some of my other rifles and seems to work great. Tried this for a change. When I receive my die I'll let you know what I think of it.

I have no problem with customizing dies. It's usually well worth it.

Concerns with OP's situation as described:
If the Forster die sizes necks so much, then how much in excess does it size the case body?
Why would a die maker put out anything producing the results described?
Should OP further commit faith and bench resources into the brand?
Or should he dump this 'rat turd in a violin case' nonsense, and reward a smarter brand?

Also, whether custom FL, custom Collet or otherwise, I would NEVER FL size necks.
So I personally prefer bushings.
