How much do scopes vary within the same model

Hello Folks

I'm looking at some new scopes in the 5-25 range and there are some marked discrepancies between reviews. Is this down to the subjective nature of "glass reviews" or do some manufacturers have a greater variance than others between "the glass" in scopes of the same model? I would imagine that the nature of the test equipment and expertise available is a factor in the set-up of each individual scope.

I would think that it depends on the manufacturer. The upper tier scope manufacturers have developed their reputation based upon their name, so allowing a larger variance in optic quality would be detrimental to their entire lineup, not just one model. Mid-tier manufacturers allow a larger window of quality control within the manufacture/assembly of their product, but they also price their products accordingly.

It just boils down to what kind of quality you're looking for, and what kind of gamble you're willing to take.
