How much difference does.4g make in accuracy?

Have any of you tested loads that were .004 gn off a desired load. It gets to this .02 gn zone when using a V4. ,02 gn below and .02 gn over could give .04 gn swing. I always want exact chosen load but how much difference is a potential . 04 gn swing going to make in 100 yd groups?

338 Remington Ultra Mag your not likely notice a significant difference. 17 Hornet, perhaps something that you could see a difference at 100 yards if you are not in the middle of a node. Relatively few of us are going to be able to measure plus or minus .02 grains

I guess I'm a bit decimal confused.

1. The title says .4

2. then you ask if any has tested loads that were off by .004 gn

3. then you ask how much difference will .04 gn swing make?

Maybe not a lot at all considering in a .308 sized case sometimes going up in powder charges by .2 & .3 tenths of a grain will show either the same speed or only a few FPS difference. And sometimes the higher charge will show a lesser FPS.

For my 6BRA, I typically run 0.3 gn increments for initial load data with a new powder or bullet. Then I bring it down to 0.2 gn steps. When I find "thee" load I go 0.1 gn over and under. When loading for 100 yd I will take plus or minus 0.02 gn (resolution of the Autotrickler/FX120i). For 600 yd I only take target weight and minus 0.02 gn. For VV N150 0.02gn is usually one granule of powder.
So the OP question of does a 0.04 gn spread make a huge difference? As most have pointed out, no.

For what it’s worth, all of my 600yd and 1000yf ammo for my 6XC and 308 is loaded to a 0.06gr spread, so +/- 0.03gr. It shoots as well as I can hold the rifle and has performed to what I believe is acceptable for winning damn near any match.

I go through a considerable amount of trouble to keep things within .1 of a grain.

If you guys are going to tell me that .004 grain matters......

Well. Anyone up for a game of horseshoes?

Because I'm out.

Find this difficult to believe given that, depending on the powder, 1 or 2 kernels of stick powder equate to .1/grain.
