How much ammo can someone sell to another person without a license?

I have some boxes of 223 ammo that I'm never going to use. (shoots bad in my gun) I have someone who may be interested in buying it. We're talking probably 10 boxes of 20 rounds each.

How much ammo can a person sell to another person? These are not reloads. I bought them at a retail store. I don't want to break any laws, I don't want the FBI showing up on my doorstep because I was stupid. I'm not going to mail it. It would be an in-person transaction.

Because I don't know the other person. He's an 'over the internet' guy. So I don't want to be in the parking lot of a gas station, make the transaction, then have black SUV's come roaring in with lights blaring and Federal Agents jumping out to arrest me.

You can ship the ammo legally through UPS or FedEx. No USPS. You just have to attach a ORM-D label to the package and identify the contents as small arms cartages. If you google ORM-D you will able to print out the blue ORM-D label that you need. I shipped out 780 rounds of 223 via UPS no problem a couple months ago. UPS will only except ammo at a UPS center. There is no additional charge for shipping ammo. Ray

If I were wearing a tin foil hat I'd be worried about selling ammo to a Fed agent. If he had the hat I'd be worried more.

I would think Preacher has the right answer. Hey Bruce I would think a person that lived in your State would have at least one tin foil hat in the closet.

You are no longer allowed to sell ammo privately. But you can ship it to my address and I'll properly dispose of it for you in a slow, methodical way that will make everyone on this forum proud. And then I will even happily recycle the brass! ;D

Just kiddin' ya man. You can sell ammo privately if you want. It's kinda like cupcakes, only not. LOL!

In my state you can sell as much ammo as you want, to anyone you want -- even a federal agent because it's none of his business as there are laws (yet) about individuals selling ammo.

On a slightly different tangent, the new Colorado law makes it a felony to transfer a firearm person to person. That is transfer, not sell,so much for passing down your collection to your children.

You do not have a problem with the feds. You do need to know your state and local laws about ammo sales. My guess is it is OK.

You dont have to identify the package as small arms ammo anymore as ups has new stickers that only a driver will know what it is.See the bulletin page and you can download the new orm-d stickers that are a new type we will all have to use by the end of the year anyways.

Well that's not the new requirements at UPS here in Arizona . You must attach a blue "ORM-D Small Arms Ammunition " sticker to the box . The old blue ORM-D sticker is no longer valid , but they will accept a written sticker declaring the contents as " ORM-D Small Arms Ammunition " . UPS is not supposed to give advice as such when you ship , they can only refuse to ship . By the way if you decide to evade all this by lying , an emplemention of an X-Ray machine at most shipping hubs could catch your secret shipment , and get it confiscated . Also store outlets for UPS and Fed-EX have been advised not to accept shipments of firearms or ammo . You must know shipping regs to a state that legally acknowledges that shipment as ammo OK to ship there , and then recipient must be 18-21 years of age . Bottom line you must know shipping restrictions to the state you are shipping to , and you must also be aware of and be ready to provide proof of the buyer's age .

Kalifornia Republic folks are moving to Colorado.

Unfortunately, that is all too true, has been for far too many years. The liberal demise really started when they outlawed spring bear hunting, no baiting of bears, no dogs for bears and then banned leghold traps.......... but what the hell, they can smoke and posess their damned dope and sing kumbayah.

I don't understand folks, it was so bad where they came from that they felt the need to leave, yet they move to someplace new and try to change it to how it was where they came from. If it was so darned good where they came from, why don't they take their happy butts back to where they came from?

pikespeakgoat, I really understand. My very best friend moved to Ouray and loves it and he is a very tolerant person. He says the libs are moving in.
