How many hunters do we have here?

We hunt mule deer, white tail, elk, moose, coyotes, fox, straycats, and yes the p-dog. I shoot a 330 Dakota, 6.5-06AI, 7.82 patriot, 250 savage AI, 270, 6x47, 6mmBR, but my favorite is still the old anshutz 22LR for plinking. By the way Chuck don't come to Wyoming yet, it's snowing today and the turning to rain threw the rest of next week.
Best of luck to all, and God bless,
Chuck M

My main hunting now is deer and groundhogs. I have killed a lot of deer. For 15 years I helped a friend control hunt a 1800 acer farm in NC and we had to take 100 deer a year. They don't have that program anymore on the farm but I still go on a 3 week hunt there every fall. This past year in this section of NC they had unlimited doe permits. I killed 7 doe and 2 buck. My main deer rifle is a 25-06 but I have killed deer with about everything from a bow to a 45-70. I like to use my 25-06, 308, 30X47 HBR, 6.5X55 Swede, 270 Win. rifles and 6mm-225 Win. and 357 mag. barrels on my T/C Contender pistol. I hunt groundhogs with different rifles. This year I have been using my 6.5X55 Swede. It is a model 96 Swede that has been sporterized. I have killed 5 groundhogs this spring with it so far. I use to hunt most of the small game that lives in East TN and have hunted black bear and turkey. We are starting to get some coyotes around here and I bought a call just yesterday and am going to try my hand on them soon with my AR-15 223.

Mostly I get worked up about hunting mule deer. Was fortunate enough to take a nice 6x6 bull elk a few years ago too. Do some predator and varmint hunting as well. I like to hunt birds too - quail and pheasant mostly.

I've hunted with bow, shotgun, muzzle loader & modern rifle - but never just ran in and stabbed a boar with a knife. Now that's something special!

The past few years I've become addicted to hunting with a .25-06 Remington 700. Light recoil and vicious on the mulies. The best thing though, is hunting with my son and/or Dad. Family hunting tradition staying strong through the generations.

Regards, Guy

Here's a few of my hunting photos. May have posted some before:

Youngest son with his first mule deer a few years ago. One shot, through the heart at nearly 300 yards. The grin on his face is all I needed to make me happy.

A few quail with the big ugly 12 gauge.

Hunting is in my blood. I like shooting a few matches a year, but would much rather be hunting.

My main thing is vermin/feral shooting- I dont hunt deer- but Feral cats really get me going- I would and have passed up a shot on anything else to have a go at a cat.

I use air rifles a lot on smaller vermin/ferals on small places.

I built my 6BR specifically as a cat rifle- it does a good job on rabbits and foxes and hopefully on feral dogs, goats and pigs when I get the chance.

.22 and .25 cal air rifles- and cats
22 lr for practicing with- and cats
223- because you just have to own one- and cats
6BR- my got to for most things - and especially cats
6.5x55- my go to for anything the 6BR wont handle- and I just love it- and cats
30BR- plinker, vermin, predator and playing at BR and fly shooting-- anything really - and cats
338 federal- anything bigger, camels, donkeys, feral horses - and cats

Thanks
later

I have the great fortune of living in Montana, where there's lots of hunters and lots of great hunting opportunity for just about every critter you can imagine. Hunting is what I do and who I am. Spring bear season is underway right now, and I shot a nice chocolate colored black bear just this past weekend,May 17). Tried to post a picture, but the file size is too large to upload???

Do lots of deer, bear, antelope and coyote hunting, but elk are what really turn me on. Here's a rundown of the rifles I use, mostly Remington Model 700's:

Coyote: .223 and .243
Antelope: .243, .280, and 7mm RSAUM
Deer: 7mm-08, .280, and 7mm RSAUM
Black Bear: 7mm-08, .280, .30-06, and .300 WSM
Elk: 7mm-08, .280, 7mm RSAUM, .30-06, and .300 WSM

Ogre6br, your last response is by far the funniest thing I have read on the internet in months. Keep up the work on the feral cats. I had a roommate in undergrad who was a wildlife biologist that shared many cat stories with me. My favorite cat gun is an XP-100 chambered in .221 Fireball.

I hunt when I go home in December for whitetail and Canadian residential poopers, with a Carl Gustof M41b), and grey squirrels with a Contender .22lr. The ground squirrels are fun out here in Kalifornia.

Hunting/vermin control is my main shooting interrest.I use a bsa ultra single shot .22 pcp air rifle for ferrel pigeons, rats in buildings also squirrels and roosting pigeons out doors. .22lr with mod and lamp at night for rabbits, this also double up as my light sporting rifle for target comps. .17HMR for daytime rabbit, crow, magpies and I also have a variation on my lisence to shoot fox with this rifle. .22 250 for daytime fox and small deer and night time fox with lamp. I also use a 410 and 12g shotguns for game birds, pigeons, rabbits and rats.
Good luck and good hunting.
ps I live in the uk so I guess I`m lucky to have the opportunity to hunt these. my family circumstances don`t allow for me to be able to afford to travel for my sport. I envy you Americans . good luck.

Snare1,

I am a fellow Brit living amongst some of the greatest people on Earth, not many in California though)!

I have family in Horsham, Basingstoke, and North London.

My Dad is American my Mum English. Moved here when I was 2 years old.

I look and talk like a Yank,which I'm proud of) but I'm a Brit too,equally proud of).

Here is my special deal to you:

You get to California and I will take you on some of the best varmint hunting you'll ever know! And as an added bonus I'll take you on some private cattle ranches to let you shoot some coyotes that I'll call in for you!

Serious offer so put a pound or two aside and save up!

Steve

I kill stuff.

muskrats, beaver, deer, foxes, coyotes, crows, skunks, possums, doves, ducks, pigeons. I have been known to kill p. dogs, ground squirrels, and chucks. One of my all time favorites is rats in chicken houses at night.

One shot, one kill.

My first love is woodchuck hunting but also Whitetail Deer,Doves, Hogs,Bear,Mule Deer,Antelope,Prairie Dogs, Pigeons and Woes to the Cat that's out in the field if the Chuck hunting slows down! I used to hunt in upstate NY when I lived there and had great Chuck hunting but moved to Missouri and no chucks down here. Love long range stuff.

dogs, cats

That's just what the ANTI's need to read. If you don't think they check this site out and every other outdoor related site your nuts.

My vision is going down hill, but I still love to hunt. From varmints to Moose and everything in-between. I have a Cooper 204 Ruger for the Varmints; a 6mmDASHER for the other small 'stuff'; and the 'Big Boy', my 338/408 SNIPE-TAC for the big stuff and long range critters. Here in Montana there is always a chance for a long range shot.

I was given my first rifle a Rem 121 22 rifle back in 1949. Growing up in the country I shot prairie dogs, cotten tail and jack rabbits, rattle tail snakes, skunks, badgers, birds and other unwanted animals with the 22 pump rifle. Over the years I have taken varnints, pronghorn, mule deer, white tail deer, elk, upland birds and water fowl. The past two years I have slowed down a bit but now I controll the prairie dog population with my rimfire 22,22WMR,17 HM2,and 17 HMR rifles and a few center fire varmint rifles. 60 years of hunting has goin by fast but Im still at it.

I hunt groundhogs, crows, and coyotes. My repertoire of rifles consist of a .17HMR, .218 Bee, two .223's, .22-250 AI, .243 AI, 6mm BR, and a .308. My favorites are groundhogs and I have permission on many farms and horse riding property to keep the buggers down. My usual walk around rifles are a .17HMR Savage 99 or a .223 NEF Handi Rifle. These are used for quick off hand shots. While walking the fields I'm constantly looking for distant hogs, noting their burrow distance with a rangefinder for a return trip with one of the long range rifles. This gives me a chance to work the shot in advance to ensure a safe shot and a clean kill. I'm going out tonight in a freshly planted soybean field that I've never hunted. I'm hoping to have a good evening.

Prairie dogs get most of my atention, got the bug so bad I moved in with them  Calling coyotes has proven to be fun too. Fall usualy find me trying to fill an antelope and/or deer tag or two...Might even give elk a try this fall?

I hunt when I can.......which isnt often.

Deer season falls right in the middle of our busy outage season at work and Im on the road from Sept to Dec every year.

When I travel by truck from job to job I try to bring a varmint rig and ammo in case we were to run accross a dog town, but I dont work in the prarie regions as much as I used to .We mostly fly now .....everywhere.

I try a little yote calling every now and then when Im off....but not as much as Id like.

Ive got an old 788 in 308 and a 1895 in 45/70 for the deer and several varmint rigs in 243,223,6 WSSM, 22lr and 17mag as well as an AR with a 24" Wilson.Weapons and ammo isnt the problem...........its time I lack.
