How many hunters do we have here?

I know this is mainly a paper punching site but their are a few of us dedicated hunters on the side.

What do you hunt and what do you do it with?

I hunt everything but my main love is deer. I use a 30-06, 300WinMag, and a 270Win.

I have only drawn one elk in my life but I got one with my 30-06!

The hunting I do the most though is varmint and predator-it's addicting! I have many rifles for that-12 gauge, 204 Ruger, 17HMR, 22Mag, 20 Var Targ Turbo, 17Mach II, and I have a 6.5x47 Lapua in the mail.

Let's hear from you guys and post some pictures!

Steve

Hi Steve

Where did you order your 6.5x47 from and which manufacturer.

Thanks
Jim

Deer - CVA 50cal inline, 270 & 30-06 just purchased a 35 Rem

For big game I mostly chase after moose and elk. Most of that is with a compound bow. I do a little bit with my 270 win.
Since aquiring a couple of 204's, my favorite pastime is now smackin varmints, from yotes down to a target rich field full of prairie poodles.

I hunt deer, small game, turkey, prairie dogs, predators, upland birds, and went once for elk. Used my 30-06 succefully also. I really like turkey hunting. I also bow hunt and am going to try using it for turkeys next spring.

I love to punch paper and break claybirds. But sitting in a treestand on a frosty December morning watching the sun come up on all of natures glory is special.

Deer and feral hogs with a 7mm-08,.270 Win, or a Matthews legacy. Dove, quail and pheasants with a beautiful little 20 gauge and everything else with 17HMR,223,22-250,or 260.

As the old saying goes "If walks, crawls or flies,it dies."

Groundhogs !!! Love to zero in on them...I can sit for hours watching some favorite fields...They were my motivation to learn to shoot better...I started with a 22lr..then a 5MM rimfire magnum..A 22-250 shot my first one hole group & a quarter mile chuck..Now I use a Tac 20, my best shot with that gun was 512 yds..The 6mmbr best shot 620 yds...& a 243 winchester 653yds & 2 past that one by 40 yds...I like to shoot far off & stalk in reverse..I enjoy the paper punching but it is only a means to an end..one of these days I intend to build a hunting/target pistol in 6mmbr That would be cool for the under 200 yd shots...mike in Ct who hunts in PA.

Hi. I am new to the forum, and a fairly new hunter. Groundhog number 11,for this year) bit the dust for me on Tuesday.:) I enjoy reloading and working up loads to use for various purposes. I really enjoy the forum and appreciate all of the information available!

I hunt groundhogs and whitetail deer. My longest shot on a deer is 450 yards using a 30-06. I have shot groundhogs out to 720 yards with a 22-250. I went to Canada in 2003 for caribou, shot two bulls.

Deer are my addiction w/ turkeys a close second.
Season starts out w/ Dove in Sept. Then the bow for deer if I don't draw an elk tag. Deer from Sept-Dec with archery and gun, eastern varmints till Turkey season in April. Longest deer 495 yards, longest prairie dog 1120 yards.

Wow!

What great response!

Lets see some pictures!

When I see some I'll post some. Where is Chuck????

BigJim,

I got my 6.5x47 on this board in the classified section. It's either in the mail or going in the mail Saturday.

Let's go hunters, REPRESENT !!!!! PICTURES !!!!!!

Not much of a trophy hunter, but I do hunt deer and elk, still trying). Either with a bow or rifle. Nothing gets your heart going like bugling in a big boy and have him stomp and snort around you.

I put in for big horn sheep and antelope every year, still waiting.

I think I have just as much fun hunting varmints in the spring and summer. Whether its rockchucks, limited) or digging ground squirrels, smaller targets than P-dogs), I try to reach further and further. My goal this year is to get one at 1000 yards, we'll see.

I passed my trappers test a couple of years ago, haven't done much with it. Trapped one beaver. Shot one bobcat.

Then I hunt waterfowl all winter, and finish up by chasing a coyote. One season to the next.

Most my hunting is done with a knife, I know its a little off the subject of tis board but its the way I hunt.

Most my hunting is done with dogs for wild hogs in Hawaii. Other game I hunt are Mouflon sheep,Axis deer,Blacktail deer,Feral sheep and Feral Goat.

I certainly can see why U call urself the "Hogdogger".....I like the pic where your son has the hog by the snout...hahah...and great shot of the tusks...I used to hunt when I was younger...now I am disabled and can barely tote the target rifle from the car to the bench....but shure remember the thrill of the hunt and the taste of fresh meat....enjoy every minit with your children...thanks for the great pics..."Aloha",,Roger

Great pictures HogDogger!

My grandpa use to hunt with a knife for feral pigs here in California. Had the scars on his arm to prove it to!

Too crazy for me, bow someday but a knife never.

When I was in the Navy,at Peral Harbor) I saw a hunt like you do advertised by a guide but they used a spear. It had an Hawaiian name but I can't remember it.

You didn't throw the spear you stuck the pig with it once the dogs had it trapped.

That's real hunting what you do. Maybe you should change your name to Rambo!

Keep the pictures coming people!

Steve,
I am going to Wyoming in the morning to shoot for four days. It has been too long since I have been on a hunting trip...

Talk to you guys when I get back.

Got this guy last weekend of the season this year. I got out of the stand b/c it was much colder than I thought and wasn't prepared. It was about 45 min before dark. I had been hearing a lot of coyotes around the last couple of weeks. I went to the top of a hill and parked in some hay bails. I was sitting on my toolbox with an older gentleman and started to call. about 15 min into it this deer walked out in the field about 200 yards away. I didn't even know it was a buck at the time. The gentleman is the land owner and he told me to shoot it for meat. Only one other deer was taken on that lot of 400 acres last season. When we pulled up and the head lights hit him we were very surprised. He dropped on the spot. Y'all wouldn't believe what I shot him with and what bullet I was using!

I like to deer hunt, but I like to be out in the woods more. I have hunt deer a lot but only shot 3. Most of the time I let them walk. I grew up crow hunting and my longest is 550 yards. Just started coyote hunting and I love it. Only have one under my belt but I have called more in and then screwed it up. Went turkey hunting a couple of times this year. I really enjoy that as well. Of course I am in Louisiana so ducks and geese are on the menu but I only go when I get invited. Dove hunting in Texas every year is a great pleasure.

I am a member of Palo Alto Range and we have a 600 yard F-Class range. Haven't shot that yet but am looking forward to doing it.

Thanks for reading, Nick
