How many have shot 1mile

Yup I did it down at Coleman's Creek in Ellerbe, NC. They have a 12" piece of steel out there that if you hit they put you on their wall. I hit it two out of three shots. First was a solid hit, second when just off the plate at 3 o'clock and a slight adjustment to wind hold hit the third. Was shooting my 7mmRM with 180 ELDs at 2890fps.

I have shot a mile more than once here in Missouri. The a range called Missouri mile Shooting Range I’m good friends with the owner and I shot a mile with a 6.5x47l, 7saw, and a 6gt now on a windy day it’s tough so with any of those caliber. He has a hit indicator light on the target so you know you hit. My personal best is 2 back to back rounds on a 12inx12in plate with a 6.5x47l spitting out 144 Berger hybrid the owner couldn’t believe it as he was spotting for me.

I've done it a couple times. Both were really calm conditions.

6 Dasher, 103 VT @3030

It took around 23 Mils of elevation. First time the target was a car hood. 2nd time was an 18" square. I center punched the 18" gong on my second shot and I quit. I knew when I was ahead.

When I was stationed at Guantanamo Bay Cuba my neighbor was a Marine sniper. He invited me to the range to shoot a the M40. He brought one for me along the one he has set up for himself. Out at 1000 yards all 30 rounds in the bull that was impressive. After shooting some rounds and coaching I scored sharpshooter. I am looking for my qual list and will post it when I find it.
How big was the bull? NRA LR? or F?

When I lived in Montana I could shoot as far as I wanted just 10 minutes away. Its fun the first couple times but beyond a mile your just not really in control of the bullet anymore. I took my edge out to 2500 and it was more luck than anything at that point. We held a few group matches at 2k. For most guys just keeping all 5 shots on paper was a challenge. While I did have an interest in how small we could shoot at 2k in a BR format, thats not what most guys are doing.

That would depend on the cartridge and bullet. We shot the 408 CheyTac at 2500 yards out in Idaho and no issues putting the bullet where we want it. Yes wind is more of a player at those ranges but still have control. It was a lot of fun with that larger cartridge. Just glad I wasn't paying for the ammo. LOL

Mile and beyond.

.338 LM, 300g Berger, 2800 FPS muzzle.

.50 BMG, 750g AMAX, 2650 FPS at muzzle.

Both of those are good choices for the task.

Medium big boys want to compare, favorably, to the 50 BMG, but digging in, it’s the 660 ball ammo and drift, and a compact barrel.

Put the 750 A-Max through a 35” plus match barrel and results line up again eerily similar to overall length of the cartridges contending. Who loses out on a 50 pound weight limit, really only the 230 grains of H2O fellow.

I have read about people shooting at 1mile. Just wondering how many here have and what did you accomplish it with. I doubt I ever get the chance but if I do I would to be some what prepared

Shooting a mile is not a problem. We do it regularly at our club and have the ability to go much further. What limits you at a mile is not so much the caliber you shoot but the optics you have. Depending on caliber you have to be able to go up 50+ moa to nearly 85moa. Our club members are limited to 30 cal or smaller at our club shoots and we typically have a couple of 300 Win mags down to 243's and 6 creedmoors. I shoot my 300 Win mag or a 6.5x55.

I tried it out when the crops were out a few winters ago with my 338 edge. The load wasn't fully developed, so it wasn't a great showing, but I hit a 48 x 96 target a few times. Wind holds, plus coriolis, plus spin drift means you need a good spotter the first time out.

A good spotter and a good scope with enough magnification and adjustment (I used a Trijicon Tenmile 5-50 x 56) is essential. It really isn't a lot different than trying to hit a 12" steel plate at 200 yards with a rimfire. Lots of fun if you can do it. Just make sure your rifle and optics setup is capable.

1400 yds. Reliably, even after missing at a mile I went back to end the day with hits and it's fine but the next array at a mile was just too far. Several people that day got on at a mile with their guns but I just couldn't quite do it. Close. Splash right next to the target but wind was shifting and .308 is just a little too far away for a mile on windy days.

I was finagling drop with both dialing the scope as far as it goes (well... backed off to a round number) and holding a bunch as well. Much further than a mile and I'd run out of reticle also.

As above: not always possible to get to a range that big, so don't get to try it a lot, much less have good spotters with me etc.

Far as I've gone is 1925 yards:

My son has done it several times, I believe it is a 36X36 steel plate, rigged with flashing LED light when hit. Has hit at a mile, and also at 2150 yards the same day with the Kansas wind changing. Had a good spotter, ( not me )and coach walking him in. .338 Lapua with Nightforce optics.

Awesome place north central Ks. Spear Point Ranch hosts ELR competition matches, able to shoot past 2 miles. Nice to watch the big boys do it.
