How many have shot 1mile

I have read about people shooting at 1mile. Just wondering how many here have and what did you accomplish it with. I doubt I ever get the chance but if I do I would to be some what prepared

When I was stationed at Guantanamo Bay Cuba my neighbor was a Marine sniper. He invited me to the range to shoot a M40. He brought one for me along the one he has set up for himself. Out at 1000 yards all 30 rounds in the bull that was impressive. After shooting some rounds and coaching I scored sharpshooter. I am looking for my qual list and will post it when I find it.

I’m lucky in the fact that I live where there is an abundance of public land nearby. If you head to the badlands you can find a place to shoot as far as you want. I’ve shot out to 2000k. What did it accomplish? Well making hits out at a mile or more will out a smile on face. I can do it on a regular basis on 36” x 36” steel when there’s no wind with my 338 Lapua. Throw in a 10+mile an hour crosswind and hit percentage goes way down. It’s fun. I don’t practice so I can shoot a game at those distances. I do it because it’s fun.

I know there are guys who do it on much smaller targets, I haven’t done it enough to get where I can consistently shoot small groups that far out.

I found a suitable spot on public land and have been shooting my 338 edge at 1800 yards. The target is man sized painted on a rock face . This weekend I'm hanging a steel target at 2500 yards. I don't even know if I can hit it, but it'll be fun trying.

The very edge of my range is 1,770 yards but right now it is overgrown with brush from our record rainfall so I can only shoot to 1,640 yards. The smallest I have shot is a .243 WIN but any bit change in the wind makes a huge difference and it's hard to see the hits with the small bullets. Pretty easy with the .338 and .300's if the wind is steady. I use a spotting scope with a digiscope adapter to record and review the footage. It certainly boosts my confidence at shots under 1,000 yards. Lots of fun !

I have shot a 50 bmg at 1,900. Was a friends cheepy gun. Were were hitting a rock possibly size of a car. I was not walking that far to see actual size. Was factory hornady Amax rounds. Nothing i have would go that far

I posted this a couple years ago. I knew it would not be competitive but I just wanted to see what a little 6BRA could do at a mile.

Dave.
