How long to let Devcon cure

As the title states .
When bedding an action how long do you typically leave it to cure before separating the stock ?

I'd wait at least three days. I make knives and use 2 part epoxies all the time. I read an article written by a chemical engineer on the subject. He stated the 24 hrs does not get a full cure. Rather, he stated, it takes 2-3 days to finish curing. I wait at least three days, usually longer.

I pull the action out after waiting at least 24 hours. Don't put it back in and torque it down for 36 hours from bedding at minimum. I tend to over think a lot of things and I am not on a production schedule or having to satisfy a customer.

This week in my 55 degree shop, a new batch of Devcon steel putty took 12 hours to be hard to the touch.

This was bedding the scope bases to the receiver, while fixtured with a modified AR15 riser.

The Devcon had been in the house and mixed in the house, but the gun is in the cold shop.

It's not uncommon for the temp. to be around 60 degrees in my basement where I work on stuff. If I'm using epoxy I will lay or loosely wrap a heating pad around the stock or whatever I'm gluing to get the temp up a little. I really don't want it hot just warm. Just gotta make sure it doesn't get glued to the project.

In the Eastern states where humidity is higher , and temps generally run on the lower side , I think I would give about thirty-six hours for full cure in the Summer / warmer weather periods , and forty-eight during the colder months . But that's just me being OCD cautious . Evaporation rate of the esters in the compounds slows down in colder temps , and higher humidity .

Wait 24 hrs to pull it out, then I do all milling, deburring, and trimming. After that I go at least 48 hours at normal 70-72 degree house temps before re-seating the action for use. Don’t care what type of bedding it is or what the box says, that’s my personal rule of thumb. Basically a little over 3 full days. Sometimes I’ll let the stock sit longer if I can’t get back to it right after the 48hr wait.

According to "The handbook of epoxy resins" an old book, full cure at RT takes 7 days.
Heating will reduce this time.
