How long a barrel for a straight 6BR?

I knew I wanted at least a 28". The gunsmith had a Brux 31" blank in stock and wanted to finish it at 30" so that is what I went with. Theoretically it will allow for a set back, but I'm not sure that is really cost effective if you can't do the work yourself. Thanks for all the input.

BTW this will be my first 7.5" twist. Anyone having any luck with that twist?

I see the point.. I shot 6br for quite some time and did well but was getting tired of being beat by the dasher boys, so i finally jumped into that arena...and low and behold after getting the gun dialed in it was me walking away with the wins. I was skeptical for quite some time too, because they are so similar in characteristics. I started looking at match results around the country and quickly learned that the dasher was dominating, even out to 1000! That may be do in part that the bigger boys are damn good shooters to begin with and are always looking for the next new caliber, would probably shoot just about everything well because of their experience. I have a beautiftul 6br that was put together by speedy and it shoots like gangbusters. Maybe its just confidence in a new gun ya just put together or a slight technical advantage but i cant argue with sucess. Thats why i love this game, there is sooo much that goes into it. You truly can get as anal as imaginable with smithing, load development and practice....its endless, and just when you think you have it all figured out..your wrong!! Some guy will come along and win a match and you will later mind out that he atributes his wins to the voodo lady puttin chicken blood on his primers...Its all fun and games!

I don't disagree that the Dasher seems to be THE cartridge in LR BR game, almost like the PPC is in the short range game. Once I get better skills maybe I'll try the Dasher.

Two 6BR's cut with the same reamer by the same gunsmith. Both are Bartlein 5R 1-8, 28" HV and a 26" Remington Varmint contour.

30.8 RL15 behind 105 Berger Hybrids;

the 28" averaged 2918 ft/sec (20 shot string)
the 26" averaged 2853 ft/sec (10 shot string) over the Magentospeed on a recent outing.
There is a very well documented test with similar methodology that has been on accurateshooter.com for years. Using one barrel cut of in 1in increments, the velocity difference was 16ft/sec/in from 26in to 28in and 8ft/sec/in from 28in to 30in.
