How light of a bullet can I shoot out of my 104 free bore Dasher?

The gun is set up for the heavier bullets with 104 free bore and 1:8 twist Krieger barrel. I would like to work up a load for PDogs that might be a bit cheaper to shoot and a little more impressive down range. I made up some 95gr ballistic tips that worked well.. I'm just wondering how low can I go??

Thanks_DRG

I've launched 68 and 69 Bergers out of an 8 twist 6BR just for fun. Not as accurate as my 14 twist but should be good enough for varminting. .5 moa easy enough.

I have some 70gr ballistic tips ill give them a try... Thanks DRG

Nosler ballistic tips are very jump tolerant. I used to shoot 40 and 50gr models in an 8 twist 223 that had been throated for 80gr projectiles.

Will be using 70gr noslers in my 8 twist fireforming barrel for varmints. Seat them out as far as your comfortable with then work your powder charge. I think you wont have any issues. Lots of factory rifles have long throats to minimize pressure problems from handloads.

You can shoot really whatever you want in a .104 freebore. Just test different seating depths with said bullet and you will find it’s sweet spot. Have done it several times.

With an .094" FB I shoot 58vmax jammed in a 6BR, gives lots of extra room for go juice. 8 twist Dasher and a 4100FPS 58vmax oughta make some red mist.

Anything 6mm. OAL is a number that varies, meaning if doesn't matter the jump do long as you have room for movement. I've shot 10" groups at 1550yd jumping .210".

I have an 8twist-0.098 freebore BR and have shot 58vmax and 55NBTs with success and approx 0.100" jump. 5 shot groups were approx .55" at 100yd. I can get 70tnt 0.010 off the lands and still have 0.150 in the neck. They shoot in the 0.4s.

Aside from the 62 VG's and 58 V-Maxes previously noted - I thought I'd add that I have also shot a lot of 75 V-maxes and the next heavier - I think it is a 85 or 87 V-Max. I bought a few thousand of the 80-somethings for such a varmint trip and darned if I could not get them to shoot in three different barrels. First time I could not get a V-Max to shoot in any caliber. Tried like 8 powders and just couldn't get under 1/2" m.o.a. The 75's were not what I wanted to shoot but they are super accurate in the same barrels. So - I have had success shooting the lightest to the heavier bullets in the 6 BR - as well as non-lead. All except those 80-somethings - yet so many people on this site rave about them in the 6 BR. Just never know till you try it.
