How I measure seating force with Forster Co Ax Press

I love my forster press, but the only thing I didn't like was not having the ability to measure seating force. Well, I think I found a solution. I attached a torque wrench to the armature. Torque is directly related seating force.

I've tested with 1.5 to 3 mil neck tension, I get a ~30 % difference in torque value. That's enough fidelity to screen out the outliers. ;)

I'm using a .9 to 18 ft-lb torque wrench..

One of the greatest things about the Co-Ax is the feel. (And free floating.)

After you get accustomed to seating, it becomes art. Gauges...? I don’t need no stink’n gauges.

well, if your elbow is calibrated to +/- .5 lb, you should be fine! LOL

gotta love the co-ax, one of the best presses out there..
 
Here's an example of using the torque wrench on the Co-ax. These measurements came from a fresh batch of annealed brass from the 284 win using .002" tension.

I was able to screen out the outliers, trying to keep ammo in consistent groups. I'm in the process of collecting range data to determine how the outliers (in terms of seating force) shoots.

I did find one round that measured at 40 in-lb that was definitely out family. No idea why. I'm convinced that if I let that one go in a match, I probably wouldn't be happy with the results at 1000 yards.

Since you are measuring do you think the peak torque depends on how fast you are moving the arm?

Please report the range results when available. I have done little to advance my brass prep results in this aspect, and could use some motivation to do so.
 
Using a drill press and a little marine-tex, I've retro fitted an adapter. Works well. Now I've got both Forster and this press using the torque wrench!!

I tried a torque wrench on my Rockchucker but the string and duct tape kept breaking.
