Forster Co-Ax Press

I looked at a co-ax yesterday that was on display. It was very smooth and I liked the feature that everything seems to work off the center line.Would this help in seating the bullet with less run-out?Forster claims that the jaws allow the cartrige to free float thus aiding the alignment into the die. Also, I use the Redding competition dies, neck and seater). Will these long dies clear the handle of this press?I tried a .243 Competition die while at the store and there seemed to be plenty of clearence, but I am loading a .300 Win. and don't know if the dies are of the same length.I currently have a Redding Big Boss press and am wondering if the co-ax would give me any improvement over the Big Boss. The money could be put to other uses, shooting)if the co-ax is not better than the Redding.I can average .002" or less with my current set up.
Thanks for any opinions.

You have one the best presses on the market in your Redding. Everybody that owns a a Forrester will tell you they wouldn't have any other but that is to be expected, same thing comes from the Rockchucker guy. Take the $300+ you might spend on a new press and put it towards a good scope.

I'm hi-jacking this thread and apologize for doing so. However, Stephen Perry has answered the original question.

Has anyone found any benefit to using a loose-fitting shell holder to provide compliance in, say, a Redding press?

Winchester 69, and/or Stephen,

If I own a co-ax should I replace it, or will it continue to give me great results?

thanks,

Edwin D.

Edwin,

Your Forster press should continue to give excellent results for a very long time if kept clean and lubricated. Your press is as fine as any, and better than most.

While the 223 & 308 Redding Comp Seater works, the 300 Win Mag Redding Comp Seater doesn’t work in my older Co-Ax. But I’m pretty sure they’ve changed the handle on the new ones so they now work with those tall Redding seaters.

If I was starting out I’d buy a Co-Ax. Once you have one you won’t want to use the others. I keep an RCBS around that only gets used as a collet bullet puller. Sold my Redding and Lyman years back and haven’t swept up spent primers in decades.

Bet there’s many times more guys out there that have gone from Redding, RCBS, Lyman, etc. to a Forster, then there are guys that have gone from a Co-Ax back to the others. I could always sell mine at a profit after using it for 25 or so years.
