HOW GOOD IS STARLINE BRASS ?

Bill Norris

Back in the Day
Just ran across this with my 260AI. I have shot Lapua, Nosler, Peterson, and Starline in my rifle blowing out brass mainly. So far, the Starline brass has produced the tightest groups from it. I shot these two 3 shot groups back to back yesterday with Starline using a Harris bi-pod and a small rear Caldwell bag. The rifle shoots great with all the brass but I thought it maybe was a little unusual for the cheaper brass to actually group better than the more expensive brands.

My dad uses it in a 6mm Creedmoor.

He’s running pretty stout loads and the pockets have stood up very well over a number of loadings.

Accuracy is as good as the gun shoots with other brass.

I’m not sure how consistent it is from piece to piece for weight but it certainly shoots well.

My match load for International 300M Prone:

260 Rem. Match

Lapua 123 gr. Scenar OTM seated to 2.905" COAL
43.7 gr. H4831-SC
Fed 210M
Starline 260 Rem. brass, annealed, trim/chamfer/deburred to 2.025"

This load has produced SD's of 5.1-8.0 over 60 shots, and given me my best ever score of 586 -41X. It's a pretty stable load, no matter the season.

I've used Starline brass in .44 Magnum, and liked it as well.

That definitely is mighty fine stats for sure. I did not anneal my brass as I've never purchased a machine.

Been using it in 10mm Auto - best I've ever had for pistol brass. Friend of mine who also always swore by Lapua is now 100% converted to Starline for 6 and 6.5 Creed - he claims they have better out-of-the box variances in weight and case neck-wall thickness...

I just got a box of 250 6mm srp creedmore from them. It was on my doorstep well packaged in just a couple days. I only opened the box to look at and count the brass, I have 3 extra pieces so I sealed the plastic bag and box back up since this batch is for inventory. I have brass in 243, 6mm creedmoor, & 6,5 creedmoor from Starline that I have been using. It measures out good, holds up and I like it. Plus I have talked to the Starline folks in person at Brownells. they're good folks.

I have never used Starline myself but for years now I know it is not top shelf but all I’ve heard is good things about it

Starline is fine. I'd stick with that if it's a repeatable performance. I've found that a couple of my barrels have been difficult to find a load for in my standby brand brass. Switched brass brand and, voila, the same barrel became easy to load for. Brass can be as preferred as powder or bullets in some barrels. JMHO

Used Starline for years in pistols - .45acp and .38. Bought a quantity of .223 for use in .223AI and .20Tac, and I have been very pleased. No issues at all. Primer pockets tight after 4 firings (.223AI).

Can only reinforce what has been written. For straight walled cases, (pistol or rifle), Starline is my go to. For long range black powder cartridge rifle out to 1000 yds, Starline is pretty much the go to for competitors. I don't use anything but Starline for handguns in any caliber. Very consistent and zero flash hole burrs if you're concerned about such things in handguns. I can't speak myself about shouldered cases. For me, there is no reason to stray from Lapua for the shooting I do. Starline is relatively new to shouldered cases but I can only imagine that they strive for the same quality standards they have for straight walled cases.
