HOW GOOD IS STARLINE BRASS ?

Hey y’all, thanks for the all to the group.
Always used Starline brass when I was shooting IPSC competitively and always was top quality, never an issue.
For my rifles I have always been a Hornady brass person, and have achieved great success with it. How ever for my 6.5CM the brass had just about run it’s course and needed to be cycled out and replaced.
Long story short, have just received a new Victrix Armaments rifle and was going to try Lapua, until I read some of the reviews on Starline brass, so off to my GS and bought 4 bags.
On initial inspection I considered it to be good quality. When home ran a couple of tests on random cases across the four bags and was amazed at the findings the case lengths were consistent 1.910.5 with the occasional going to 1.911 and the actual case weight of 162.5gn with a variance of 000.5 either way.
There were 10 cases from each bag that had been tested, I found this to be great consistency. Have not done a volume test, but would also expect consistent results from that as well.
Not to reload and see what results come of it and how many times I am going to get out of them. I was getting 12 reloads out of the Hornady.

l shoot IHMSA Silhouettes. Virtually ALL triple A and lnternational class shooters use STARLINE for their
strait wall pistol/revolver calibers. Bottle neck cases are primarily Lapua brass

I have found Federal brass to be inconsistent. Some will last many loadings and some won't. The latest GMM .308 brass has been soft and showed partial head separation after a few loadings. There is lot better brass out there like Lapua, Norma and Star Line.

I've been using Starline 5.56 for my 223 FTR loads. I do neck turn it for the tight chamber but It's giving me accuracy equal to Lapua and so far has 5 firings and hasn't lost any primer pockets. Lapua starts losing cases on the 3rd firing.
I’ve heard Lapua doesn’t make all of their brass? Does anyone know if that’s true and if so which calibers they don’t make?

For the price it doesn't get any better.

I have been using the same 200 pieces of 6.5 CM and 6 MM (small primer) brass for going on 4 years now. I shoot 600 and 1000 yds each week.

I have 542 rounds shot in 2021 of the 6.5 Cm and 686 rounds shot in my 6MM CM.

Last year I noticed that I was getting split necks on the 6.5 CM brass, I think I discarded about 10 pieces. I did not anneal any of the brass until late last year.

The 6mm CM brass was 200 rounds of 6.5 CM that I necked down to 6 MM. Turned the necks and have had great results with that too.

If you do the math that comes out to about 11 reloads of the 6.5 brass (over 4 years) and about 14 reloads on the 6 MM brass.

As far as I'm concerned there isn't any better brass on the market.

Only problem is I can't find any new brass on the web for sale.

I like Starline Brass it gives me long life. My rifle case samples (7-08) showed it to be 443 alloy know as Admiralty Brass, it has a higher copper content and lower zinc content than the industry standard 260 alloy know as Cartridge Brass.

I have been using Starline brass for many years in 40 S&W, 30/30, 45/70 and now .500S&W great brass. By the by you do not need to anneal GOV 45/70 cases.

Just ran across this with my 260AI. I have shot Lapua, Nosler, Peterson, and Starline in my rifle blowing out brass mainly. So far, the Starline brass has produced the tightest groups from it. I shot these two 3 shot groups back to back yesterday with Starline using a Harris bi-pod and a small rear Caldwell bag. The rifle shoots great with all the brass but I thought it maybe was a little unusual for the cheaper brass to actually group better than the more expensive brands.
Never used it pard, but thanks to your post and the responses, that is now on my bucket list of things to do!
Appreciate it!

I’ve used it for years for pistol. I have to say I never considered it for match rifle because I am a Lapua snob lol but I recently had great luck with Peterson brass in 300 Win Mag so….why not check out Starline for match rifle? Thanks for posting this.

After reading back thru the different comments in the thread I have a hankering to try the second load in the Starline as the first mentioned firing was actually blowing out the 260 brass. I plan to load the 140 gr. Berger L R Target with 44.5 gr. of H-4350 and CCI BR-2 primer for the next time out and see how that works. Stay tuned for results.

I have used their handgun brass exclusively for about 15 years now since first trying it, I shoot thousands of rounds through my revolvers a year, and have never found any other rimmed handgun brass that compares. I shoot the big ones too, 475 Linebaugh, 454, custom 45 Colt 327 federal, custom 357 Magnum, and custom 460 S&W in Encore, all maxed out, and the brass is flawless, I call it the Lapua of straght wall brass!

I will have to give their rifle cases a try qafter reading this, always good to have options, and so far Lupua has proven to be my only option!
