How far down the case should a custom FL sizer die size?

How much sizing should I expect from a custom die at the base of the case? I was told that FL sizer sizes 0.002 proportionally down the full length of the case. I know it can't size the web but how close to the web should it go?

If its designed to be a small base die as well like most custom benchrest dies should be then itll go all the way to the shellholder and provide the correct setback at the same time. If just a FL die it could be as much as .250 from the groove

This is often discussed, but it depends on the ACTUAL size of your BRASS and CHAMBER.
Even though the die has been made to match your chamber reamer, your fired brass may still be below spec by .005". These days, if you measure your brass at the web just above the extraction groove, it is common to be undersize, this translates upwards also, into the body of the case.
So, answering your question is difficult, you'll have to measure your cases after sizing to know for sure.
