How Does One Get Consistent Readings with the Hornady OAL Gauge

I was checking for throat erosion today (same bullet as when mounting barrel) and using the Hornady tool. Measurement were bouncing around and I’m looking at the tool/modified case and found the case was unscrewing/loosening as I wrangled the setup down into the barrel. I tightened the case up with a little more twist and measurements became much more consistent ( 0.001 - 0.002 for five measures). I think I will probably apply a little dab of blue loc-tite to the threads and just leave the modified case/tool attached/assembled.

FWIW : I wouldn't recommend doing that . There isn't a lot of "Wall" material where the threads meet the body of the tool , and adding the weight of a case permanently to the tool can cause it to snap off . Go ahead and ask me how I know this can be true .
