How do you measure your groups ??

How fast is the Ballistic-X process? Do you take a photo with your phone or is a scanner needed?

Wondering if it is an option for scoring our club matches.
Take a photo with your phone. Mark a known measurement then mark the shots. Maybe a minute?

That’s one ten thousandths of an inch.
Fortunately I’ve never had a group decided by that.
Actually that's 1/100,000 of an inch.
Doesn't really matter, I have neither the equipment or the clean room to measure that close.

We have had Grand Agg's and 2-Guns decided by a few tenths, I guarantee you if I (or anyone else)
remeasured them they would all come out with different results.
Again, an inexact science. The more you do it the better you get.
Optical comparator would be the answer,
with a single separate sighter shot a requirement for comparison.
The club won't buy me one though:mad:

For those subtracting bullet diameter from group diameter to measure group size please consider the following: Shooting a 6mm PPC you shoot one shot on your target as a fouling shot and it measures .240, you then shoot a group (number of shots does not matter) and all the shots go in exactly the same hole making the first shot hole no bigger. You then measure the group and it measures .240 from dark edge to dark edge. Subtract the .243 bullet diameter you have just shot a negative group.
I don’t think so!

I measure from the outside of the smudge ring and then subtract bullet diameter. I don’t think it matters much. I can look at my groups and pretty much tell what they are and whether the gun is doing right. The measuring just makes me feel good.

An official scoring reticle compensates for the bullet diameter if used correctly.

So I do take into account the actual diameter of the bullet hole in the paper if using dial calipers to go from edge to edge.

But I rarely measure groups. I know when a Rifle is shooting at a competitive level and when it is not.

For instance, these are the last two 5-shot groups at 200 yards Sunday morning I shot with the rifle I am taking to the TackDriver.

I don’t need to measure these to know the Rifle is shooting quite well.View attachment 1488814
Nice....so did you end up with Ronnie's dies Jackie?

Dave, Jim Moore got that set of die’s from Ronnie’s Son Randy, but I am free to use them any time I wish too. They are a 00 ogive bullet but with a relative straight shank. They seem to be shooting quite well.

I do not know who got the set of OO Dies that were the exact same die’s as the original Bruno OO Boat Tail.

Jim also got the set of 22 dies that make that great 52 grn Cheeks.

I use On Target software. ontargetshooting.com
I prefer it over Ballistic-X. Mainly for 2 reasons.

1. Since I bring home my documentation (chrono results, target, load labels, etc) I scan everything in and store them on my NAS. Then I can toss the paper. Since I already have them scanned in, On Target Precision Calculator provides you the opportunity to place the correct diameter circle around the hole, thus eliminating the difference in size of the bullet diameter and the target hole.

2. It shows me the exact center of the group. So when I check the zero on my hunting rifles prior to season, I know how to adjust my scope or ballistic input on zero distance.

Here was my 200m sight-in target from last year for my 3 rifles I hunt with. Clean bores, good conditions.
