How do you like those Boyd laminate stocks

For you men and women who have bought the Boyd laminate stocks what is your impression on them? How is the fit and did your barrel line up good in the barrel channel. Their is nothing worse than when you drop a barreled action in a new stock and the dang gone barrel is hugging 1 side more than the other. I have a couple Sako Quads and would like to get another stock as an extra. I have always been a fan of the laminate stocks and they seem to have a nice variety to choose from. I called them up the other day and a young lady was very helpful and sweet on the phone plus the wait time to get 1 is not very long. If you have 1 of these stocks feel free to post a picture of it as I would like to see some of the different colors.

I have two of them. Had to open the barrel channel for a large contoured barrel. I also pillar bedded both of them. If you expect a perfect fit, it may not be for you. I believe they are a great deal for the money. The only thing I did not like is that to get a larger barrel channel for my Savage I had to get a thumb hole design. I would buy from them again.

I don’t have any pics handy but I’ve been had a good experience with a couple of Boyd’s laminate stocks.

You should also look the Bobby Hart stocks at Stocky’s Stocks. I have one of those and like it a lot.

I've had a mixed experience with them. Two stocks arrived with problems (massive orange peel in the finish of one, and the other wasn't inletted for a bolt handle at all), but the third is spot on perfect.

Their customer service is very difficult to get on the phone, so if you order one, go into it expecting to have some work ahead of you.

you get what you pay for . the last Boyd's I got was a disappointment.

I have 3 of them. 1 thump hole and 2 pro varmint with adjustable cheek raiser. All 3 needed about 10 min of work with a 3/4 in deepwell socket wrapped with sand paper at the very tip of the stock to free float the barrel. Everything else was drop in ready. My barrels came straight down the center! Maybe I got lucky, but I'll take it!
Thanks Bill

I bought the thumbhole varminter years ago...Finished it myself & pillar bedded it..One of my friends sons has it now..I'd do that project again. Mike in ct

The prairie hunter is what I went with on a savage in pepper laminate... Boyds website sucks for comparing the different stock designs.

I have three of them now, and probably will obtain one or two more. All were drop ins or a slight trim in the magazine area, but not problem. They are a very nice stock, in laminate, for the money. Have one each for a savage, Howa and CZ.

I will add, two are in nutmeg lami and one is the pepper lami.

As I stated in the post I have a couple Sako Quad rimfires and would like to try out one of their stocks. They are the only company I have come up with to get a stock for the Quad unless I go McMillan or Manners and I am not interested in going that route. Sounds to me I have heard more good than bad and as anything it could be the roll of the dice. I had no problem speaking with somebody and they were very helpful. I would end up sending it out to somebody and have it bedded and would have to have the barrel channel opened up for the larger barrel as they only inlet them for the sporter barrel. I am interested in the prairie hunter or the pro varmint. Not sure what color pattern I would do on the prairie hunter. I think I will do the prairie hunter first and if all turns out well I will order the pro varmint and maybe have that 1 hydro dipped.

I think youll be just fine.
A side story- in 22 or so years of building rifles i have had to buy exactly one back because it didnt shoot. It was horrible. After the second barrel was determined to be junk i took it out of the boyds thumbhole stock, installed it into an aluminum block stockys and it shot perfect. Its the best shooting rifle its current owner owns. Just for giggles i put another barreled action i owned of known quality in it and proceeded to shoot some of the biggest groups ive ever shot. Its hard to believe a stock will make a rifle go from 1/4” at 100 to 2 foot at 50yds but it sure did.

Years ago I ordered a Boyds laminate for Savage MKII .22LR non thumb hole. They sent me a thumbhole stock. I kept it but hate it as it just does not fit my hand. Awkward. Need to sell that gun/stock. I have 3 Stocky's/Bobby Hart benchrest laminate stocks. They are heavy. No way to make weight in anything other than 17#LR or Heavy/Unlimited, F-open, etc.

Nobody even mention that they are only finished on the outside ! The entire inside is raw dry wood that will suck up water like a sponge. I had to put 6 coats of trueoil inside to seal it against water intrusion and delamination. Also used the liquid wax as a last step.
