How do you keep track

I primarily shoot 22 & 6 Dasher so I don’t have any fear of reaching chamber length but after a couple firings I measure all cases. Generally find one or two just barely shorter than the rest and that becomes my trim length for that batch. When I notice some growth everybody in the Wilson pool.

Fwiw I’m saving pennies for a 3 way trimmer like the giraud.

I'm like many here, I have a Giraud and trim everything, every time. It's too easy using a Giarud not to. I did roughly 900 yesterday prepping for SOA/Nationals in less than an hour.

It avoids confusion. Another way is to purchase several green or whatever color boxes that one takes to the range. Put in an index card or piece of paper stating what needs to be done in "batches".

I usually deprime when I get home from the range, or soon thereafter. I have coffee tubs that are labeled for each gun I have/reload for, so I de-prime, then toss them into the correct tub, and process accordingly. To each their own in the world of reloading. LOL

My procedure:

- I dedicate a group of cases to a specific rifle - approx. 60 to 80 cases contained in 20 round MTM plastic boxes; 3 to 4 - 20 round boxes.

- Each box has a label with the case's reload history, for example:

Rifle I.D (e.g. 223R) - Date Cases Placed in Service (e.g 08.2018)) Box No.( e.g. 1)
Load: (e.g. Powder Charge - Powder - Bullet - Primer - COL e.g. 25.0 - H4895 - 50 N - F205M - 2.285)
Number of Times Reloaded: (e.g. 8) Trim History: (e.g. Reload No last trimmed x Number of Times Trimmed ,i.e. 8 x 2)
Powder Lot No. (e.g. 45987) Sizing: (Shim No. to produce the optimum sizing i.e. a shoulder bump of .001 to .002)

- After the first firing I trim all of the cases to keep everything simple and uniform.

- I check the case length every time I reload with a caliber set at the max case length, kind of like a go no go gage - it only takes a few seconds to check a 20 round box.

-After the first trimming when I encounter a case that needs trimmed - I trimmed them all which is isn't often if you are not over sizing your cases - I use a .001 to .002 shoulder bump in sizing which minimizes the amount of trimming needed. Normally I can go 6 to 8 reloadings, depending of the caliber, before I have to trim.

While I've never use it, Sinclair makes a simple and cheap device to measure the amount neck clearance which can give you a more precise information when a case should be trimmed for a specific rifle chamber. I simply use the SAMMI values to determine when to trim.

Trying to keep track of and / or mark individual case trim history would be a nightmare for me.
