How do you insure your firearms?

Been thinking about this lately since Insurance cost just to cover firearms is VERY expensive per year. Like $17.00 per thousand.

Things I don't like:

Even though they are in 1000 pound plus safes bolted to the floor and wall in a house with a security system and two guard dogs, you get no discount. Cost of insurance is the same as if you had them laying on the kitchen table. However you get a discount if your wife's jewelry is in a safe.

The insurance company wants a description and list of serial numbers of all. Maybe I'm paranoid but if there ever was registration/ confiscation I just don't like giving out that information to be on file.

So what do you guys do for insurance and who do you have it with?

Danny

I live in a 43' motorhome. Insured content value can be adjusted, which I have done to cover jewelry and guns. Insurance company said they don't even have to know that it is guns, just my records of what the contents are.

Danny: I've had the NRA endorsed coverage for more years than I care to remember. Without getting into specifics on the open forum ( feel free to PM) I have been very satisfied with their coverage. They have never required a description, photos, serial Numbers, etc. of any firearms that are covered. :)

Danny - For many years, I have insured mine with a scheduled personal property rider on my Allstate Homeowners policy. They require an appraisal and photo of each firearm. Initially, I simply gave them values from the Blue Book. After that, I sent them copy of the invoice from the seller. I have several scopes and binoculars on the SPP also. It will cover any loss beyond fire and theft. Think I told you that recently while cleaning out my basment a new NF scope disappeared and was never recovered. They sent me a check the next day for the appraised amount. I have contacted other HO insurance writers, including the NRA, and none is cheaper. The cost is $1.00 per hundred of value each year. My only gripe is that the basic Allstate HO policy is expensive.

Bolting down your safe gives the burglars leverage for prying. Even though I have insurance and an alarm system my best protection is my 115 # German Shepherd!

I have even had the mailman and Fed EX refuse to come to the door.
