How do you fellas find the lands without a modified case?

Joe,
Absolutely!! I will modify my post when I get to work running late cya and thanks for clarifying I did miss read it.

;)'Wayne.

In my short carrier reloading I have used the RCBS precision mic, the cut neck case method and the smoked/sharpie marker method on my .223 bolt, all 3 methods put me in the same ball park when measured with the RCBS precision mic.

You can use the sharpie method with out modifying the case, I seated a round long and just kept adjusting my seater die till the lands didn't make marks any more, was a pretty quick method when using a micrometer seater die.

For the Stoney Point/Hornady gauge just drill and tap a case of your own. No magic involved. A piece of cake if you have a lathe. If not, just drill down between a couple of blocks of hardwood, using a drill bit just a few thousandth's less than the case OD then use it like a barrel clamping block to hold the case while you drill the case head out.
