How do you bed a Vanguard?

I am in the process of putting a stock on my friends Weatherby Vanguard. The question that I was wondering about in the bedding. Do you want the same clearances on the vanguard you do on say a Remington 700? do I tape off the bottom, sides, and front of the recoil lug or is that necessary with an integral recoil lug? I recommend putting the Vanguard under the bed in a case, and using something else.

Not to be rude, but why bother if you have clearances on the recoil lug, isn't the idea to have a skin tight fit ?
I tape the front, and bottom, but DO NOT TAPE the sides ever because I do not want any side to side play at all.........

I have never bedded an action with the sides not having clearance. Everything I have read tells you to clearance everything but the rear of the lug. I'm a newbie, but like to know more about not taping the sides of the recoil lug. I think that it would look better on the Weatherby, since it has an integral recoil lug and if I tape around the action it will leave a gap for abour the front 1/2" of the reciever. That is what caused me to ask in the first place. It is just a hunting rifle, but I do not want to do something that will detract from the accuracy, or lack thereof.

I have to agree with preacher. The action does tend to torque a bit when the bullet hits the rifling and begins to accelerate. If you don't bed the sides of the lug then the only thing left to counteract the torque is the action bolts.

EXACTLY MY POINT---- if not why even bother.
The only problem will be when you go to take the action out of the stock, you will need to wiggle it out a little at a time..
Taping the sides on a custom lug is defeating the purpose..
Factory lugs should be checked before not being taped just to be on the safe side.
I recall years ago on one of my hunting XP-100's that after working up a real good load and killing a nice deer I discovered that I had never put the action screws back in place when I was cleaning it for storage.. Had a time getting it out of the stock though.
The action bolts that touch the sides will definitely have a effect on accuracy if they are not centered and kept that way.......
Lot's of the custom lugs are slightly wedge shaped to pull hard down into the bedding, and they do not move once torqued....
