How do Leupold comp 45x hold up in mirage?

I use a 40X version for smallbore prone; it works well enough that I can see the mirage 'wash' across the target face at 100 yards. I've pushed it out a little further on a 300 yard target, and it seemed to do fine using the conventional method of setting the focus just in front of the target berm, and reading it that way.

When the 45 Comp series came out, they had excellent glass compared to the other brands intended for Short Range Benchres, mainly the Weaver T-36, the Sightron, and B&L.

I have one that is at least 15 years old on my Rail Gun. The resolution is great.

But my opinion on mirage is, if it is really bad, it is on par with my Match 48x High Master scopes.

I have a 45x on my rifle now but thinking of purchasing a NF or something under 2k for my next rifle.
The Leopold 45x is a very clear scope with great glass but want to try a variable for the Hot days in west texas.

Their glass is very sufficient, especially in their price range. Glass was never the issue but they are not as positive as some others in terms of holding poa/poi. I have an older 40x and have no complaints with it but they're not all equal. A scope checker can show the slight movement that some of them suffer from. 1/16th of movement is great for a hunting scope but isn't for today's BR game. There are better options out there but you usually get what you pay for, too. The Sightron is a good value as were the old Weaver t36's but neither are a March or Valdada. We don't typically need great glass in BR but we do need great tracking. Great glass is a big bonus. There's probably a market for a reasonably priced scope with great tracking but lesser glass, IMO.
