Uses for a Leupold 45X ?

Outside of benchrest competition...

What uses are there for a Leupold 45X scope ?

Would it hold up to load development work on heavy recoiling rifles ?

What would its limits be as far as recoil if you wanted to get long life from it ?

Would it be good on untrained prairie dogs ?

None of my varmint guns are hard kickers so I've no idea about those scopes and recoil. But fixed high power scopes are a poor choice for pd's, and really high power scopes like that are an even worse choice. Benchrest shooting is pretty much it. Maybe rockchucks if they were all way-waaaay out there. But for usual rockchuck shooting conditions it would be horrible. For prairie dogs it would be the absolute worst scope possible.....after about 2 shots you'd hate it and put that gun aside and start using a different one.

Hello,

I use a fixed 36X for doing load development work, and then switch over to the scope that is normally used on the rifle after the load development work is finished. However, most of my rifles do not have much recoil. This makes the use of a BR scope a usable proposition for what I use it for.

Cordially,
Bob Blaine

They're right. 'Outside of benchrest competition' it is of little use.

Same could be said for the of other BR scopes, including March.
They just lack the functions & features needed in the real world,
and that makes them a poor investment.

I'm sorry but I don't know what "functions and features" are lacking in the Leupold Competition series scopes, real world or other. I do know that scopes over 24 power, when used in the field, have a very narrow field of view. Finding varmints through these highpower scopes, even with a spotter, is frustrating.
